I need a new book. I've read most of the ones I've got. Anybody have any suggestions? Preferably someone slightly obscure, e.g. *not* Piers Anthony, Robert Heinlin, Tolkien, Robert Jordan, etc.

As for my own suggestions...
George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series is very good; my favorite is still the first one, "A Game of Thrones". I'm waiting for him to get the next one out.
Also, I can't remember the authors name, but the "Black Magician" trilogy is good too. I've only read the first book, but it's really good.

I'd go into more detail but... i'm not a good book critic.

Feist definitely. The Black Magician is good, that's Trudi Canavan. Eddings is fantastic, as is Salvatore. Uhh... something original now...

Gardens of the moon by Steven Erikson is great, the first of its series but im not sure if any others are out yet.

if we're talking about fantasy literature, I'd suggest works by Karl E. Wagner - great heroic fantasy stuff.
"Darkness Weaves With Many Shades"
"Night Winds"
"Bloodstone"
"Death Angel's Shadow"

Spider Robinson -
Callahan's Crosstime Saloon
Time Traveller's Strictly Cash
Callahan's Secret
Telempath
All good reading, not exactly in the 'Fantasy' genre, more 'Sci-Fi' - but not really.

G.R.R. Martin certainly lives up to the Tolkien-esque double R in his initials =] Fantastic author.

Garth Nix's "Sabriel" is also great. I enjoyed reading Eddings, but in retrospect he seems somewhat deliberately cliche.

My absolute favorite is Guy Gavriel Kay ("The Fionavar Tapestry" and "The Sarantine Mosaic"). I only recently found out that he also helped Christopher edit the Silmarillion. ;)

Feist, Eddings and Salvatore rule.

For Eddings, go to this site to download alot of his books: http://webbooks.webpark.sk/eddings.htm

For Feist go to: http://webbooks.webpark.sk/feist.htm

For Pratchett: http://webbooks.webpark.sk/pratchett.htm

For Tolkien: http://webbooks.webpark.sk/tolkien.htm

For Rowling's books go to http://dobby.web1000.com/. the real stories are on the left column, those on the right are alternative stories made by HP fans.

On the left side of the webpage there are more authors.
I hope you'll enjoy reading them, i sure did. And from all those authors Feist is the best! I havent read Raymond yet, though.
For the Horde!

ooo, The House Of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, the house of the story is not unlike the ID, very odd book, both the story and the way it's presented. Can't say i read much fantasy though i've been reading a book of Lovecraft shorts. Interesting stuff if a little over written in places
