Where should I go for my first kill? |

Oh, and what should it be? |

It depends. If you are trying avatar/ultimate chaos ending, something unique or rare monster. If you want to get courage skill too, something that can be found in the wilderness. I favor giant frogs for this. It is a bit risky, because undeads live on swamps too, but who cares about L1 PCs. Just make a new char if you get killed. Other monster could be maybe a large dog. This way you can meet Filk on l21 at ID. If you don't care about courage skill, and don't want to go deep into ID, first kill should be a unique monster like cloaked ratling in Lawenithothel. Or some mugger or beggar there. If you aren't going to fetch TotRR, kill some monster that is very common, can be met in wilderness and preferable it is summoned by some monsters. Best is probably jackal. Lots of skeletons can be met on the road to the pyramid and necromancers summon they, so skeleton is good as first kill . Or just an orc or a rat. The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt. |

Are bandits an okay first kill? |

Yes. Found in wilderness (forests), but maybe a bit too common for ultra chars. There are surely better choices. I don't ever kill bandits first. Are you going for ultra? When I'm going for ultra or just want to get TotRR, I kill first a giant frog if I want courage skill, which I usually do. If I don't want it, first kill is the cloaked ratling, a beggar or a mugger, all found in Lawenithothel. If I'm playing just normal ending, I kill a very common monster to get the courage skill soon. Then it is orc, rat, jackal, skeleton or some other very common monster. The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt. I always make an outlaw first kill. They're easy to find when you need them (road) and rare enough that avoiding them in the CoC isn't too much bother. It's also easy to remember if you always have the same first kill. What do you wish for? wands of cat repellent_ |

Make the old barbarian you first kill, just for the irony of it. http://tankefel.blogspot.com/ So far you have only killed one wild cat. |

depending on the game, it sometimes help to "N" <rename> yourself, so you can, later in the game know what you have to find 30 of (courage), or what level you need in the ID. I usually forget my first kill by the time it counts, so the name thing helps, and you can alway change back later. |
