anyone knows if attacking a creature does affect your DV/PV in a minor way?
My level 12 wizard was just trying to stay alive in the SMC, cornerd by a (obviously at least level 25) super rat.
no PP left he survived ca. 5 turns just standing there. (waiting for enough pp to cast dig to escape)
I thought i might as well attack it (had only one shield) i miss, it hits, me dead...
coincidence? What do you guys think?

Did you go Coward? And every good wizard (with the STR to do so) should carry an extra shield... but hindsight is 20/20, eh?

Coincidence? Probably... Check your PV/DV meter next time you attack something, versus what it does when you stand still. I don't think there's a difference.

I'm not sure about the attack affecting your DV but it seems to match my experience.

Also I don't think such change would be displayed - similiar to the DV change when attacked by several monsters without the courage skill.

I still envison that death...

My hurthling wizard cowering in a dungeon corner behind his tower shield. Top of it on the wall, bottom on the floor... stick his hand out to poke it, and rat siezes the opportunity ... :)
