Um, ever tried http://www.winzip.com ? If you can live with somewhat anoying nag screen, winACE < http://www.winace.com > is also free and 100 times better than WinZIP IMHO (granted it's been a while since I used Winzip, but winAce can (often) pack ZIP files smaller than winZIP and it's native ACE format is almost always better by a good margin (depends somewhat on what you are compressing. In addition it has support for just about every compression format you can think of. |

I personally dislike the nonstandard zip formats simply because they aren't in use much and if you send it to someone they'll have to get a new program to open it. I'd stay stick to zip, rar, and the *nix one (gz & tar?) unless you're only zipping it for yourself. Rar is what I use for the most part, personally. There are several completely free (no nag screen) zipping programs available (especialy for .zip, but others too), if you but look. Google is your friend. |
