This is just a random question i was wondering about, but what is every one Favorite non-artifact weapon?
My one handed weapon of choice is a Battle Axe & two handed is a Halbred.

I usually ended up with weeping weapons + phase dagger and eternium two-handed swords.

With weak chars I usually go for a spear, shield combination to max up the DV

Either spear+shield or a 2hander. If I live to see the storages of darkforge, I usually change to 2handers there.

Depends what im playing. Dwarven fighter types always get axes, Trolls stick with their giant clubs, humans usually get swords and drakeling will get the spears.

pole arms are nice - spears in the beginning, and then halberds... there is often a good one in DF, and guaranteed r-c trident is a decent weapon

I like spear and shield, and I've started doing ultra endings, so there's no point in training something besides polearms anyway.

I love shields too much to use two-handed weapons anymore. That 20-45 total DV bonus you get after using them for a while is NICE.

I generally start using a spear (nice dv bonus with a little training) until I find something nifty, where I immediately switch weapon types. That could be a bloody dagger, a battle axe of devesation, a mace of destruction, etc.

I like one handed weapons and shields (usually swords, just cause I'm picky that way.)

Weapons of hunting are great for my necros, with more bodies generated and all.

Wicked and poisonous weapons are great, too.

I like spears and staves.

I used swords and axes when I used to play with non-magical PCs, and I used maces/flails with priests (just for roleplaying purposes).

"Weapons of hunting are great for my necros, with more bodies generated and all."

The effects of hunting are pretty weak. You'll have a 1/5 (or 1/15 - I assume one is for weapons on the other for missles, not certain which is which atm) chance for one extra chance at corpse generation. (This is actually a weaker effect than 'double chances', but that's the easiest way to think of it if you didn't understand that.) For comparison, food preversation over 60 gives you an extra chance every time, and preversation over 90 gives you 2 extra chances every time.

So yes, more corpses will be generated, but at most 20% more (how much less depends on the specific monster and wheter weapons are 1/5 or 1/15).

Poisonous and OfPenetration are very nice, but wicked is a weak effect as well - you'll only deal 1.5 more damage on average. Devestation or, to a lesser extent, mayhem are quite better.

I like mostly spear&shield. But what is the point of not discussing artifacts? I always use an artifact weapon once I get a decent one. Usually I favor R-C-trident, especially when I'm raven.

And a weapon of penetration or devastation is very good, only very rare. In my last game I had an eternium-shod quarterstaff of devastation (+6 6d10+16) from the darkforge. But I still preferred my Vanquisher ;)
The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt.

I think every one switches to an artifact once the get a good one, but sometimes i try to play with out them because after dying, leaving or what ever i look at my junk & it almost always looks the same as another of the same class & race with the exception of a loosely gathered items.... in other words, its almost like playing the same character over & over, i might as well just start scuming again

Agreed, a great deal of the fun comes from finding a better weapon than the one you're wielding... I find it much more fun & challenge to stick with an acceptable regular weapon while keeping your eyes open for anything "of Devastation", rather than just running around with the scorched spear (is it just me or is this artifact so bloody repetitive, it appears in most of my games??)

Favourite non-artifact weapons so far...
For magic-users: Quicksilver quarterstaff :-P (wished)
For others: mostly scimitars, phase daggers too

Twinge-

I just guess the RNG was really kind to me during that game, cause I noticed a rather nice increase in corpses whenever I used the broadsword of hunting I had. I don't remember how many or what percentage, as I don't mess with the math; I just play. Could be that the weapon was blessed; don't remember. And I've never had a weapon of mayhem or devastation! ~sob~ Besides, I think "wicked" sounds cooler anyday. >:-)

As to the artifact vs. random weapon thing, I tend to roleplay a bit more like ein does; so, if I have a necro, I like Moon Sickle or the sword of Nonnak, if I don't have anything better that fits with a chaotic necromancer >:-E Otherwise, I like random, good weapons better, too. I had a quarterstaff of lightning with one wizard character that was tons o' fun...

I usually use polearms, but swords of sharpness or daggers of penetration ain't bad either.
One hundred warriors of Lucifer, they brought the fire with them
And they made storm of fire, that blew over paradise
And behold, one hundred and six, monsters from the inferno
They brought the nuclear destruction, that devastated The Holy Realm

Eternium two-handed sword (+18, 6d5+17) {-1, +0}

I'll take this thing over the sword of Nonnak anyday!

I alternate (more or less) between an orcish druid and a high elven archer. For the former I keep the staff and try to upgrade it to a skull staff, and I like it when I get a boomerang as well. For the latter I ditch the knife as early as possible in favor of long sword and tower shield. (Note that I don't acquire much better than this because I'm still progressing in my experience with ADoM; best character @L14 w/ 41000 score.)

well, I don't use them... but sell them :) quite valuable for a lov-level char, you can get about 2000 for one (and hardly any ordinary weapon/armor is worth that much)

I usually stick to polearms. The bonuses kick ass..
I once got a eternium twohander of penetration, it was unfortunately in the late game, but EM sure got his ass kicked with it!
