What increases chances to improve items by smithing?

Wearing leather apron? (B/U/C status of the apron?)

Type of hammer used? Material from which that hammer is made? Damage of the hammer? B/U/C status of the hammer?

B/U/C status of ingot? Of anvil? On thing I'm working at?

Other ideas? ;)

I'm not certain, but it seems i've gotten better results when smithing already greatly improved items by having a high willpower. Too bad you can't bless heaps of ingots. I'm sure having all your raw metal blessed would help, but it's not cost effective. Weaponsmiths can obtain heaps of blessed ingots by melting down *only* blessed iron items. It seems that even one uncursed spear in a heap of blessed ones will, when melted down, cause the heap of ingots to come out uncursed. This effect seems to include rusty items and cursed items... one bad apple ruins the lot.

Weaponsmiths are a lot of fun. I have the highest DV/PV of any character i've had so far at 105/78 on normal tactics.

Damn... I have a blessed large eternium hammer, a blessed anvil, wearing a blessed leather apron and use blessed eternium ingots... And Smithing usually fails. Even on eternium cap [+3, +8] which isn't that awesome. What else can I do? Read scrolls of danger maybe? ;) Use hammer of the gods instead? (but it is iron...)
