I'm browsing the Hall of Fame and just saw the entry for "Ayukawa":

> Ring shop + overflow piety + 3 pool wishes (SLB, =RoInv, !PoEx)
> = early game wish engine

> With ID and herb
> scumming she got enough HP to get overflow piety (ID door method)
> and drained pools for 2 more wishes (=RoInvis and !PoEx) and +TC.

I'm a little confused: this looks like a really clever thing to do, but I can't find mention of it anywhere else (including Andy Williams's Guidebook, and Google for "overflow piety").

What is the "ID door method" of getting high HP? How does high HP produce overflow piety? What is overflow piety, exactly? How does it help you get the stack-of-rings / !PoEx wish engine started?

Thanks in advance.

I think Ayukawa was referring to cross-aligned prayer

praying too much will cause Solars, Spectres, Greater Daemons (L,N,C respectively) to be summoned and a lot of them. That's what he needs HP for. I'm not sure about the door method, but I think he's gonna create doors around himself so that the creatures can't get to him (none of the creatures summoned can smash doors), and he needs teleport and TC to eventually get out.

Okay... I think I'm getting this, if slowly.

How does one perform cross-aligned prayer?
Pray on an altar of some other god?
But there are no altars in the ID.

How does having high piety help a wish engine?
Was all that work just to acquire holy water to bless the potions of exchange?

Thanks again.

Piety overflow and cross-aligned prayers are different things, although they both involve praying to a deity many times, angering it.

Piety overflow is praying so many times that the piety counter eventually overflows, causing its instant jump from -2000000000 to +2000000000 or something like that. The deity thinks that you are extremely pious after such operation.

Cross-aligned prayer is praying a lot to one deity to anger it, making the other two very friendly to you.

That would make piety overflow "cheating" by abusing a bug in programming.

Cross-aligned prayer would be more like a "feature". After all, the gods are rivals, and the other two would be happy with the PC for pissing off his deity. As a feature, it can be tweaked if there ever is a revised version coming out. piety overflow just needs a quick fix.

This is a dead post but I'll reply to it anyway.

The "ID door method" is not a way to increase HP, it is , like Morio said, a way to safely summon Greater Daemons.

The exact method is for a chaotic PC to surround herself with locked doors while standing on the stairs in the Infinite Dungeoun.

HP is mentioned, because approximately 120 HP is required to survive an angry diety's bolts.

High piety was useful in starting the wish engine because high piety is helpful in draining pools. Most of the bad effects of pools with the exception of aging can be removed by prayer. Pools were an important part of the game because they were the only early source of intrinsic teleport control, the only safe method of identifying a potion of exchange, and an early source of invisibility.

Overflow piety is cheating, but thats bot going to stop me from using it vs eternium man.
