That "kill a monster" quest is no way necessary to complete the game. You don't even need to kick Thundy's ass for that. To be able to advance you just need to do the portal quest (ask him about portal and answer "y") and that one doesn't necessitate any killing of felines. Spoily Spoiler I maintain that the reward for Thrundarr's quests at that point in the game are more than equal to the silly RotMC later on. I just had a winner use Big Punch throughout the entire game. Not to mention the dwarf often coughs up fireproof and waterproof blankets as well as a guaranteed wand of fireballs with 12 charges. Well, I guess Big Punch is kinda heavy but it is guaranteed generated if Thrundarrs quests are taken.(unlike maces of destruction and the ilk which can also be corroded, rusted or annihilated.) Just for comparison: Mace of destruction...(+4, 5d6+6) Big Punch....(+1,8d5+3) [-6,+0] (800s) If I had the carrying capacity and a good sheild I'd go with the punch. I concede that you could probably smithe or scroll up those stats a bit if you were keen, but why you would use up a wish on a mace of destruction is beyond me... And not to nitpick,(just to present the other side of the argument) I have personally never had much luck polymorphing stuff with !oEx much in the early game, in fact normally I'd be lucky to have more than 1 or 2 !oEx by this point in the game.....just my two cents. |

Well: Mace of destruction does damage from 11 to 36 by basic. Big Punch: 11-43 damage by basic. What beyond me is stated here: Why you would take +7 damage for an ultra-weight, the pain of killing the demon (OK it's pretty easy if you know how) and the inventory burn risk, and decreasing your DV by 6. And then comes the thing: rustproof, alternative weapons, such. Still worth it more. At least versus 7 more damage. And for the last thing: There is a Great wish engine somewhere.
