cold spells are quite effective, as is poison and dragon slaying ammo of course.

I usually get inside the temple, fire something at the ACW and then lead him out to the hallway, and poison him (and stun him If I have the equipment) and use dragon slaying ammo

Wands of stunning (quite common in my games) are a good thing to have - it will take 1-3 rays to stun the Wyrm, and then you can just poke it with a stick untill it dies... or with a weapon if you happen to have any ;)

Be sure carry blessed Extra/ultra healing potions, you'll need those if the wyrm hits you.

And don't feel bad about this.
Killing the Wyrm is by many rated as THE hardest part of the game, because you have to do it because the game stagnates at this point untill you do.
There are still quite a few things you could do before tackling the tower (not going into detail here) to enhance your power before attempting the infernal tower.
Ive had some PC get lucky with crowning/precrown gifts and breezing thru it before level 20, and some PCs die to the worm at level 28.

Wizard with ice ball/ice bolt at good efficiency can freeze it to death easy enough, and would represent a somewhat "safe" way to do it. Get stats high, and be good level and you shall triumph.

But as someone said here, dragon slaying ammo will work with any char. Its good to save any dragonslaying ammo you find for this very purpose.
One problem is not having the ammo burn up.
Do not equip it (or the missile weapon(unless its an artifact)) untill you have a clear shot at the wyrm.
4-5-6 arrows should be enough (at skill level 6-7 or so). Fire when berserking.
You might also want to save some of the guaranteed potions of extra/ultra healing for this part too.

there is _nothing_ better than a wand of paralyzation. Once it kicks in the game is over for the worm.

Poison, another sure way to finish cretures, since they don't naturally heal from the poisoning like the PC does. They just keep taking damage from it.

Items help resisting confusion:
Staff of magi, soaker, Skullcrusher, executor, cow axe, crown ofleader, shirt of the saint (no longer available!?), med protector, BoW,
=mental, = clear, helm of mental.

However, I think one is enough since resist does not stack, except for fire. Try blessing the ring.

Btw, it is not a must to kill him with ice bolts. Try using bouncing bolts and stay in the clear.

"However, I think one is enough since resist does not stack, except for fire."

Gee, that depends. Does doppelganger's confusing counts as a confusion attack ? I had 2 items and was still confused every time i hit him.
But Chaos Summoner only confused me once, tho...

christina: you should also check the chars willpower as low willpower makes it easier for confusers to do their nasty tricks while high willpower helps resist confusion.

Hey cobalt, that's why I like Brannalbin's CoD.

But, here's something! I managed to pickpocket the fire orb from the ACW!
