This kills me. I have to find a "large" jackel. Not your garden variety, kill by the horde "jackel".

Normally, I would not post this little tale, but it's funny because there was a thread a while back about horrible Thrundarr quests...I've killed almost the whole list looking for a large jackel.

Berzerker king, will-o-the-wisp, master thiefs, etc etc.

Thrundarr will be the bane of me. :(

I swear, if i get a wish, I'm wishing for one. :)

I never thought large jackals were really that rare. Of course its not something you see all the time, but IIRC the pyramid generates a few of them in its mazes.

Nope.

Those are "jackel-lite".

Just went through there...*sigh*
Although perhaps if i hang out there one will generate...anyone confirm this?

I kill every cat i see.

~5-6 exp levels on avg is worth more to me than the ring, which i think is extremely overrated.

i hardly care about 16 dex, as stats are potentially limitless given the casino and garth. (heavy object + casino + 1 days time = ~400 million gc = more than 16 dex as long as your dex is under 70-80, in which case you dont need it that badly anyway)

luck and fate are easily obtained intrinsics.

critical hits and the 16 speed is the tradeoff for worrying oneself silly about killing cats, before AND after obtaining the ring, and sacrificing a lot of exp.

not worth it, though im probably in the minority of the people who think so =P

LordFrederick: point taken, though I'd guess after some 30-40 cats killed the spoily lord would be *TOUGH*. But I guess with webs, wand of poison and some slaying ammo he should be quite manageable.

As for me, I'll try to avoid killing cats if possible (cats aren't worth much anyway) but these days won't grieve too much about losing that.

Critical hits and +16 speed is nice, though, but getting BoW and some quickling corpses/potions of speed should make up for that. And BoW is *MUCH* better than that ring, anyway.

If you manage to do it, avoiding cats really is worth it, and after you've gotten it cats shouldn't really be a problem anymore, it's only harder in the begginning since you don't have as much equipment, just lock them in a room, teleport them away, confuse the, transform them into something else...
Of course you can make mistakes but, shit happens, learn to live with it

"shit happens, learn to live with it"

I second this:

Geraldine, a gray elven priestess, managed to walk into Dak while trying to go into the arena. She now is an fallen champion.
She didnt managed to pacify the Big room.
She met at least one cat on every level on average.
Still she decided to keep on living.

lordfrederick: in a normal game, i kill at least one cat accidentally before getting that far, but this time i managed not to do. and this was the first time i managed to get the rotmc (however, the character died because of my carelessness - removed the GoG accidentally while carrying about 100M of cash). i don't find experience levels that important in late game, as you have at least a couple of them already (unless you play a troll;), and you are gonna gain more and more (dragon vaults, barney) before the mana temple. still, the rotmc gives about +10 to dv (which becomes circa +20, if not even more, on the coward tactics with tactics skill 100) in any circumstances except if you already have Dx 90-99 (which is very hard to do at this point since you preferably suffer at least some points of Dx penalty to corruption). and extremely high dv (150-200 while fighting cowardly) helps a lot, methinks - you won't need tons of pv anymore because they won't hit you anymore;).

i don't want to say the ring is priceless, but it's about as good as the ring of immunity...

...about as good as the ring of immunity...

By end game, the ring of immunity is worthless; the RoMC isnt.

depends.

If you got the ToTRR, yes. It truly is.

If you didn't, heck there might be an element that you don't have an immunity to yet. If you didnt find any artifacts like Nature's Companion or such...

And its a [+5 +5] ring... won't find better than that in the game =P

So i dont think its worthless, just of a highly diminished usefulness =P

well, i didn't do any ultra endings yet, didn't have the torr yet, so... ;) i usually have one to two immunities by endgame (one from crowning, one from armor - of course i can just switch to another dragon scale mail whenever necessary, but having the RoI is a lot better, giving all four immunities all the time). however - there are several nonartifact rings i like: rings of slaying and rings of regeneration (the second is rather for the early game) are a good example. but the roImmu and the rotmc seem to be the best two because of their big pv/dv (the rotmc increases dv a lot through the Dx increase).

not trying to make any sort of universal truth out of that, i say: the value of both rings depends on many circumstances, and this is obvious enough to make me wonder if this crap should be posted:).

"well, i didn't do any ultra endings yet, didn't have the torr yet, so..."

This is actually in interresting point you take up. The TotRR is a requirement for an Ultra, but an Ultra is not an requirement for TotRR. I always write down my first kill. And if I succeed in rescuing Khelly the Trident is really not that hard to get. I've done it with two chars that did not go Ultra, a bit because its a good weapon, a bit cause its fun to get.

I mean I always do the blue cave and get the first dagger, unless Im a troll Im always 45. Assassin prince - easy to talk to before killing. Diving in the ID - well usually its not hard at all. Getting the emperor moloch - now this is the biggest challenge, both because of corruption and his PV and hitting ability. Since Khelly was saved however, I always have enough SoCCs anyway. So it does not take very long to get, and it adds some challenge without all those chaotic Chaos quests. I would thnik that most chars would live thru D:50 with either rune-covered + some jelly/humanoid slaying ammo or twins or an other weapon they might have found.
But still, its fun to get :).

Oh yeah about the rings, yeah they are different etc etc. I think most would agree (if forced to choose) that the RotMC is the better one. Discussion is really "to what lenghts are you willing to go to obtain the ring?". And this is open to debate. I say it depends on your race/class, and leave it at that (easy: drakeling, caster classes/bard/druid)
(Well rings of Djinni summoning are pretty decent too. But not for 'wearing')

it's sure big fun to have the trident, but by the time i visit the ???? level i'm usually too lazy to do all the filk, emperor moloch etc. babbling, which would be even more frustrating because my first kill is usually something common (i like Courage). i know there are ways to deal with this and get both the courage and torr fast, but i usually don't care;). given all of this and the fact that - almost always - i visit the assassin prince after the endgame, i'm most likely to kill not even this one, but each assassin prince on sight;))) (i know it's an unique creat, but this doesn't matter=), then wield the daggers - just for fun, given my standard polearms wskill after the endgame is 12-14, and i don't train daggers nor 2w combat (nevertheless i always have about +200 to hit while berserk and wielding twins, that's nice).

edit: and oh yes, rods' are okay. wowi is okay, too - but you don't wield it, right?:)

That damned dwarf elder asked me to kill

GREEN BLOB!!!!!

Damn, I looked at my kill list of normal ending winner, and found ***8*** of them!!

I've already killed a dozen of

GREEN SLIMES,

gained 6 levels in Big Room + Pyramide,

AND NO GREEN BLOBS!

[weeps bitterly]

I'll vave to go to DF, loose all my resistances, gain cursed + doomed, finally get a wish, and, instead of AoLS, or 7LB, ask for damned *GREEN BLOBS"

%(

Or just spit on those quests, accomplish Dwarven graveyard, and spit on all those rewards, including PoEH's, fireproof blanket, wand, gold, etc....
