I've been playing this game for years but only got 1 win with a gray elf wizard, savescumming. I need a good race/class combo, easy to play AND win. Please suggest one. :) |

I find gnomish wizards, hurthling archers and drakish beastfighters to be quite easy to play and win with, but it depends really much on your playing style. Aye hampion, your time will come just keep playing and that victory vill come sooner or later "I don't know what World War 3 will be fought with, but I know World War 4 with be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

The idea is that gnomish wizards are easier to keep alive in the earlygame due to higher toughness and str. Though their magical capability isnt as great as an elf, its pretty damned good. Some combinations to think about: Gnomish Elementalist Highelven Priest High/DarkElven / Drakish / Dwarven Paladin High/GreyElven / Gnomish Archers Troll Barbarians/Beastfighters These are all combinations i regard as very easy. Gnomes advance in xbow skill very fast. Troll fighting classes are hard to kill. |

I have played Adom for some long time too and I havn't cleared it yet. I haven't been even near end, but I gonna try different playing styles and different race/class combos. I'm sure that someday the lukc will smile and I shall clear Adom. |

Like a club of anonimous alchoholics :) I scummed for a very very long time... It was guly and uniteresting. Especially drinking, redrinking and redrinking [via reloading] pools for wishes was ugly. Now - I don't scum. Just learned one cute thing - one should be very-very careful while playing. That's all. Guidebook is a major part of carefulness, of course. :) Try wizards. Have high tougness, some immunities, rest - resistances, visit library, and bolt or ball everything on sight. Wizadrds are indeed *very* powerfull at endgame. To get started without pains in arse, IMO, it's not a last idea to have a tougher race (I almost always mean Drakelings :)), or a really fast learning gnome. Ubi patria ibi bene! |

if you find archers too boring and elf wizards too fragile - i guess you should play a dwarven/orcish spellcaster (wizard or maybe priest). they have low Le and Ma, sure, but they have enough fortitude to survive the early game without manifesting a single spell. and in the mid- and early game, all wizards kick ass;) (impossible to lose unless you do something dumb, ie. remove a girdle of greed, rush into the mana temple without death ray res, etc.). bb-> trolls are imo weak - as fast as you get to the CoC all your stats go to ~30 easily regardless of race. from that point on, trolls have only one advantage - fast healing, which is also accessible for other characters via potb (potions of thomas biskup?;) and troll carrion. and a troll will NEVER start to gain levels at a normal rate... such a race is good for newbies (for obvious reasons), but for an at least somewhat experienced player, the only reason to play a troll is fun. What do you wish for? *THUMBS* EM_ Silence. Silence. .... *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* You die... |

yeah, i was about to write this before posting the message above.:) i should say "the only reason to play a troll is that it's more fun than playing normal characters since trolls are probably the most challenging race in the late game" What do you wish for? *THUMBS* EM_ Silence. Grey or High elf wizard. Read your starting book to the end and buy some food in Terinyo. Go to ID and hang out in level 2-3. Read all books to the end. Buy more food when you need, buy stay in ID until you have 15 spells. You should be level 8. Now proceed carefully thru the rest of the game, using spells whenever in doubt, a shield and spear otherwise. |

Or alternatively, stay there till you have a healing spell. My RL dumpyard: http://www.geocities.com/ceruleannebula/index.html |

i'd say you should also do some quests. the reward for kranach is nice because it's about what is needed to learn detect traps (which is a valuable skill). the pc dungeon is okay too because it includes a guarantee vault (vaults are ok since you may find useful items - almost guaranteed (holy) water and probably some 7lb or a girdle of carrying are good examples - all these items are desired in the early game, and there are no other vaults before CoC). However, the latter quest is best done after training in ID (cavernous levels are dangerous for lame characters). (a tiny spoiler lurks below) Keep in mind that each character you start can easily train its St to 18 while carrying v. heavy load (Strained! status) What do you wish for? *THUMBS* EM_ Silence. Silence. .... *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* You die... |
