I just recently got the news that ADOM is still going on strong and the 1.0 version has been released. And I see the forum still remains as it's over a year since I last visited. I must say that I'm impressed.

But what has changed over the last year? Is there an established IRC channel/channels?
And whats the news on the 1.0 verion? any difference, new stuff?

Well, I see I've got alot of catching up to do and I'll probably spend the next weeks playing some seriously HUGE amount of ADOM.

Hehe, thanks :P

The last i played was gamma 14 (though nr. 15 and the pre-release of gamma 16 was already out).

So the changes are huge? As this is the general section, any new options or such?

There is an (optional) question based character generation (sort of like some Ultima games have).

There is a few new locatitions, and a tonne of new pre- and sufixes to items resulting in hundreds of new item combos (nasty dagger of fire for example or two handed sword of penetration (ignore PV like phase daggers) and so on).

I think there are a few new quests since g14 too (don't quite remember when they where all introduced).

Monsters pick up and use and equip some items (potions, armor and weapons), they don't get the full benefit of all eq (a monstter wearing a cloak of invisibility will for example only get the DV and PV effects, it won't turn invisible). This is work in progress though and will probably improve in future versions (ver. 1.0.1 will probably come out around new years...)

All in all there are a lot of changes... It's still ADOM though, the game play haven't changed.

Yeah after a few games I realized that. Though I can see it's been a long time since i've played. A whole bunch of untimely deaths :P

BTW: Halla Jan Erik, kommer fra Norge jeg og. Asker for å være mer eksakt, er det mange nordmenn som spiller adom, eller skriver her på forumet?

Sorry about that norwegian :)

I just recently critiziced the Finns for posting in Finnish so I'll just answer that in english as to not seem too hypocritical ;)

I'm from Rogaland myself, more precively Hauge i Dalane (tiny place at the cost about in the middle between Stavanger and Kristiansand (a bit closer to Stavanger)...
I don't rely know how many norwegians play ADOM, judging from the newsgroup there are quite a few, but AFAIK there are no coherent Norvegian ADOM comunity, so I haven't got a clue how many there are.

Don't know about here on the forum, I haven't seen anyone that have been flying Norwegian colors so to speak, but there might be a few for all I know.

As far as I can tell there have been people from USA, Australia, Argentina, Finnland, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Japan and England here though (with a warryig degree of activity), so we are pretty international...

Speaking of Norwegian ADOM players: I introduced ADOM to a Norwegian IRC friend of mine a few months ago. She got hooked on it a bit. Though I don't know know how much she plays it nowadays, she really liked it and have the potantial to become really addicted... hehe

Good working Locke. I find it hard though to show other friends how fantastic and everlasting the game of ADOM really is. I have a couple of friends
who play, but they don't have the same *spark* for ADOM.

I feel half of the joy of ADOM is to talk to fellow ADOM'ers over some ADOM happenings. So I try to tell them about the game, but i seldom even get them to download it.

Well, I guess those who are fit to play ADOM are the ones that go "yeah! that sounds cool, do you have the link where I can download it?"

But anyways, I get lots of fun out of the game and now I got a really promesing Human Fighter (my favourite) wondering in dwarf town with some nice items. I'm Off

My bigger brother first played adom (gamma 14 I think it was) and I wasn't intressed about it at all. That was about 4 years ago so a lot has happened (between me and ADOM ; ) since those days... Now I have played ADOM about 3 years and I don't see the ending of this BEAUTYFUL relationship between me and ADOM (Luckily)

Agreed, Reaper.
A freind introduced me to ADOM one as "this cool game that works while a download is running" (which at that time few games did). Gamma 9.9.1 ? some low version of g9 had just come out. I got a few other friends hooked on it soon after, but only myself and one other freind still play it. Most left in favor of more eye candy. Creatins.

I discovered it on a mates computer once at a party, spent the rest of the party playing it instead of socializing. First thing i did when i got home was download it. He also had angband and nethack and some other small ones but they didn't spark me like adom did.

Oh and i've shown it to all my friends but they aren't nearly as interested in it as i. Everytime i see them i'm like "oh i won with a <race>/<class> the other day, and got <artefact> from a greater <monster> vault".

Adomer from Australia.

I remember playing Moria a lot, and then my friend was like "Hey, there is a game like Moria, but cooler! You can even spit acide there!" and so I downloaded ADOM... and the rest is history :)

luckily I have one guy in school, who is as intersted in ADOM as I am... so I'm not too lonely ;)

Well, I've realized that even though it's nice to have a friend to play with, I still prefer playing ADOM alone because it needs a lot of concentration (and that's why playing while you're drunk isn't very clever thing to do). But as many of you mentioned something about talking to your friends about ADOM, yeah, it's great to explain how you got all those Wands of Wishing and how you had over 1000 speed while you were beating the hell out of Andor Drakon. So at least here in Rovaniemi I haven't been able to find any players as good as I am and as addicted to ADOM as I am.

I think the first version I played was the last version where the shields skill was absent. 'twas
a couple of years ago I think but with ADOM time flows so quickly.

Hmm, none of my friends play ADOM, they say it looks too simple. yeah, right!

"Faugh!" snorted Tahngarth. "Why would it make a meal out of something like you?" Squee looked relieved. "No," he continued, "you'd make a much better toothpick."

::cough:: Well...I'm pretty new to ADOM I reckon compared to the rest of you. You'll probably be seeing me a good bit now that I found this forum. Anyone got any good tips for wizards? I'm doing pretty decently thanks to some random stupid luck with my current character, and I've had probably about 200+ in all. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. And remember, don't make love behind the gate. Love is blind, but the neighbors ain't.

Some tips for wizards...My style of play probably differs alot from other peoples. I'm a very physical wizard; I get Rolf's Companion, and Rolf's Saviour if I can manage it, and I try to save my PP for really hard enemies. Sometimes you won't see me cast a spell for hours on end. Get to the Caverns of Chaos quick, and you'll get alot of Cooked Lizards from the ratling traders there (only two of them actually carry cooked lizards, though). Once you reach the casino, your money problems are solved forever. You can also buy all the spellbooks you can in the casino, to stock up on spells. This probably doesn't help, but it's here anyway.
