I guess there is no strict fixed limit for the weight limit, rather it is probably a probability for ice breaking depending on weight over 1999 s. Alternatively, it could be that up to 1999 is safe, then there is some area above that where ice creaks but doesn't break and above that - crack. One could test this on some safer place. Build a bridge of ice, stand on it carrying exactly 1999 s of weight (including a pile of !=oDS). Use the wish rings, every time wishing for some one ring, thereby increasing weight by 1 (AFAIK all rings weigh 1 s) and check the weight at which the ice breaks. Back to original topic: there is nothing like getting the dreaded "You die..." and remembering you had an AoLS in your inventory you were saving for Kelly.
