Is it possible to worship whatever deity in charge of the altar in the ToEF? If I try it will I be smitten down by the RNG? Will I be smitten down by anything?

Not 100% sure how that works, but I think your god will punish you if you try to use those altars.

If you are crowned you can convert them in the normal fashon though (be in good standing and sacrifice something valuable).

Not sure how that works for chaotics.

The altars in the five elemental temples can only be converted by champions of Balance and Order. I wouldn't recommend using those altars too much though, because I've gotten some pretty juicy stuff turned to gray ash there and a nasty critter there might just sacrifice you on the moment you least expected...

But if you manage to convert them, you can sacc a very large amount of chaos critters..

There are pros and cons to everything.

it takes one simple thing to sac all of the fire demons - temporal invisibility.
By why should one sac them when being crowned already? Just killing them for XP is a way faster ;) (especially with frost bolt/ice ball)

IIRC, those dude in the temples will sac you immediately if you set foot on the altar, even when you are invisible.

IIRC some of the creatures in the temples see invisible, and also all creatures in them cannot be sacrificed

the only monsters in the temples that see invisible that i know of are the chaos servants, the guardians, some of the creatures that the master sommoner summons, and some creatures from the mana temple

Just remember that any creature you have swung at (or hit) can see you too, even if they couldn't see invis before.

I'm pretty sure demons and grues see invisible, too. Elementals don't. But elementals can't be sacced anyway.

Water grues don't see invisible, water demons don't as wel las fire demons. I don't know why you're so scared about sacking all those fire demons? I did that, and my char managed to stay alive. I just don't know why to sack them if crowned and not eligible for postcrown.

It's still far less risky to go and sac gold from casino. Or goblins in early CoC.

Hey, if you want to make it GRAND, no amount of goblins will do. Sacrificing the servants of chaos to a diety of Law is, as they say, very grand.

Or, to put it in another way: Roleplaying. ^^

Goblins *are* servants of chaos. As well as kobolds, gremlins, imps and other nice little critties. Don't be snobbish aout them.

Just wondering, but does the type/level of the sacced monster affect the amount of piety you get from it? For example does a rat give as much piety as sacrificing a balor?

No, not as much, but close. I think 2-3 numbers less in the value only.

It depends more on the level of the character and i think the relative level of the moster also. for instance a couple goblins sacced at level 3 will get you well on you way to "very close". But I don't bother saccing rats at levels > 25, its just a drop in the bucket for the work and gold is always more plentiful (and for dwarves, more precious) anyways. Btw, don't try to get molochs sacrificed on alters, they just knok the alters over. I should find out if balors do the same thing since I just finished an ending with a wish to spare.

How about an altar in SmC? And level 60 goblins? I think they'll do.

I think piety is based on the xp value, not the base power of the mob. Not sure about it, though ^_^;
