During a long game, Adom are very likely to crash, awfully annoying. Anybody else having that problem? |

YES, I do... Every game that I've had a character going good, ADoM has crashed, whether it's on Windows or DOS (hasn't on Linux, but I haven't played it nearly as much on Linux, so it probably does on that, too). My solution has been to save every once in a while and back up the .svg, not to save scum or anything, but in case ADoM crashes. Happened twice to my character that just won, but both times I had backed up just prior to the crash, one time just after leaving D:50! So backing up is advisable, but resist the temptation to scum if your character dies. Molach: "I like to have 200+ hp and over 5 good healin potions when I do [the fire] temple. AND some way of killing the Wyrm" Morio: "Some way of killing the worm is recommended, yes :D" |

I'm playing ADOM 1.1.1 on Windows 98 and I have to be honest this version hasn't ever crashed on me. |

Echo, if you want to crash any ADOM 1.1.1 version (DOS/Win/Linux), just pick up the 'Skilled' talent at the character creation. what goes around comes around |

Yea adom crashes way too much, I play adom 1.1.1 I did finish the game without it crasing but also lost some characters to it. I often do make backups but I find it ugly sometimes to continue with them if it whasn't a recent save. |

I was just a few minutes ago having a killer good start aspiring for my first ultra, everything was going AWESOME, had ring of weakness and a bunch of very very nice artifacts and nothing was standing in my way... Except a crash. Around five minutes prior to the crash I thought "I should really save now and make a backup in case this crashes", well, I forgot to do it. Annoying, yes. Playing beta4 on XP, happened when I tried 'drop all' on an altar. |

To avoid the altar problem, use the 'drop unknown b/u/c status' command ($) if you want to detect b/u/c status of stuff. This command never crashed on me. I also recommand saving every game just after passing the Eternal Guardian. The only character I lost in 1.1.1 was just after going down to a level that I suppose was the Casino level. The Great Wyrm of Order breathes light (more) - wow, you feel very smart! |

Winbeta4 has crashed twice for me. Once in the big room while walking over a huge pile of stuff on the ground, and once on D:50 _AFTER_ closing the gate. I have probably played hundreds of hours, so I don't think that it's all that much of a problem, for me at least. |

It's crashed a few times on me (excluding the well known and entirely avoidable skilled talent) in my years of play, but the most recent was a tamed spider that tried to kill itself in waldenbrook's shop for no reason. strange. I've only used winbeta a couple times though, I just like the DOS one better for some reason. For your sake I hope heaven and hell, are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath. You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death? |

I had a friend once whose game crashed after he encountered a Karmic Cave Tiger, it changed colours like a karmic being, when he 'l'ooked at it, it said this is a Karmic Cave Tiger, (m)ore? so he pushed the M key, and thats when the game crashed... weirdness |

there's no karmic cats, thus it's obvious that the game would crash (cannot find address etc). My RL dumpyard: http://www.geocities.com/ceruleannebula/index.html |

Crashed on me when I found seven league boots in the Dwarftown shop. This guy was really going places, invisible, teleport spell (+control), DV +100, enough attacking spells to wipe out a small continent. I always though backups were considered scumming, but if not, I'm going to start making regular backups now. |

Well, you see, backups for scumming is cheating, but keeping backups in case the game crashes or other circumstances like electrical failure or alike that you couldn't help. |
