lol just started a new char feel that now i know how to beat the game i can do it with a non save scumed char....grey wizard... To all things an end must come..yours will be swift im sure.... |

Same with me. I semi-scummed a gnome bard to a basic win, only did it in the first 20 levels (all the same to me though). Took me about 5 or so years though... I feel like I suck at the game hah. How long have you been at it? For your sake I hope heaven and hell, are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath. You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death? |

I've played the game on and off for close to 10 years. Finished a basic scummed win quite quickly. Then two years ago found about ultras, and finished a scummed ultra. I'm currently going for a basic win, and I'm still learning things I didnt know before, herbs and the like. The game never gets boring, just very frustrating at times. One piece of advice, dont play while drinking, too many of my characters have gone that way. |

Play and drink ? I can tell you about that <grin>. Lost many characters due to late hour too. I played ADOM for what, 4 years or so now, never won. Ever. But still, I love the game :-) I don't like to savescum, though. Before ADOM, I played Heroes of Might and Magic and even then, I wasn't saving. It's too easy to win that way. ADOM is a VERY difficult game and I think that's way I love it so much. Still learning too. All your base are belong to us. |

Ok, guys. Now I have a question about back-uping, not savescumming, may all the gods protect me. Just a plain back-up in order to protect my character against a power failure or a bug/crash. Never did that, untill ... I had this all-promising gnomish beastfighter named Victorinox. He was at level 15 just about to enter the second level of the Dwarven Graveyard when I say to myself : "Hey, wath about a back-up of this one, he's really great." So I did copy-paste the file and then - you probably see me coming - when I reload my game with wichever file Victorinox felt 'out of luck'. All is equipement was cursed ! What the h#%?% ... OK, I got water, a scroll of uncursing, a coaligned altar was not to far and I'm with reasonable standing with my god, so that shouldn't be much of a problem, right ? Wrong ! Thanks to my now cursed ring of damage among other thing, I was unable to kill even a single monster. Victorinox got stuck in a corridor between two of 'em then he just got beaten up till the poor thing died. I zapped, I prayed, alas to no avail. Bummer. So, the question is : how do you do a safe back-up ? All your base are belong to us. |

You just had bad luck with your backup, it usually works with no problem- when you get the ķut of luck message'things just become impossible, with amazingly tough monsters (i sacced a kobold when it happened to me, and my character went up 3 levels!), your hunger grows to epic proportions, shop prices are 100 times what they were and your intventory regularilly dissapears all over the level... Theres mention of some possible causes somewhere in the foorum but im to lazy to look for myself :) *<< Words go here >>* |
