I have a question. It may be pretty obvious but I just want to make sure I din't miss anything. My recently created HE Archer has encountered an aligned altar on VD1. That's good, but it looks like that : # # #_ ###### the altar being in the corner. Is there a way to sacrifice live creature on an altar in that position ? I couldn't find it by myself so I'm turning to this forum for wisdom. :-P All your base are belong to us. |

Dig a hole in the wall next to the altar (using a wand of digging, mystic showel spell or a pick axe) like this: #.... ##.... #._... ###### or like this: #..... #..... #_.... #.#### ### "I don't know what World War 3 will be fought with, but I know World War 4 with be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

Digging ! Of course :o Simple but brillant. Thanx Morio. Naturally, I don't have any mean of digging by now for I'm with a beginner character but still, I hope I'll find some early enough to attempt a crowning. Where would you go if you were looking for a wand of digging ? My bet would be the CoC; I always seem to find one there. |

might be a bit spoily, so: Spoiler There's a guaranteed pick axe on the first level of the pyramid, and also, Khelavaster gives you a wand of digging if you save him, also killing dwarves often reveals pick axes, just lead them out of dwarftown and kill them edit: Ok, read your post again and realized that you probably don't have access to those places yet, but anyway, don't waste too much time trying to use that particular altar, since you will (most likely) find more of them. There's also the chance of a monster who can dig being generated - like a dwarf or giant raccoon. Lock them in the room and let them dig away. If you have a wand of door creation then you can trap them in the altar square so they have to dig around it. Otherwise you could try reducing monsters to low hp and making them panic, then chase them onto the altar and sac them. A huge nuisance though, and you'll never get enough piety from this for a crowning. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Plus that you WILL kill them more often then mererly give them a good scare. Unless you have one of those fear-inducing weapons, that is.. http://tankefel.blogspot.com/ So far you have only killed one wild cat. |

These are all excellent suggestions. I particulary awe at the idea of locking a dwarf or a raccoon in and then letting him/it do the job. The character in question died, of course, of acute blood poisoning IIRC, but there are suggestions I'll put in my backpack, you know, for later use :-) Morio, please tell me, don't you find luring people in dark alley to cut their throat in order to get their stuff a little bit ... evil ? (Or maybe it's just me who have the habit of playing Lawful/Neutral too often.) All your base are belong to us. |
