I just started a game, and i am doing the absolute best i have ever done.

not in terms of levels, but in terms of quests.

I finally completed the puppy quest. (!!!!!!!!!!) (i usually get down there, find the corpse, and get killed by millions of monsters in the cave floor or the ants. this time, i found the living puppy, and returned to the town safely)

the trick is to play as a druid. that way, the ants on the second or third level will leave you alone.

during my travels, i acquired no less than six spellbooks, but do not have the strength to carry all of them around all the time.

so, i went back to terinyo and created an impromptu library in one of the houses there.

my question is: are they safe there?

will they get damaged by the rain? (in other words: terinyo is technically an outdoors region, so do the little houses count as indoors or outdoors?)

will any townsfolk who wander into the house pick up my tomes and run away with them?

if the answer to either of these is yes, then what should i do in order to keep my tomes safe?

1. They don't receive damage while on the floor. Only while they're with you.
2. They will pick them up, but you can protect it with a little trick: use a wand of door creation in a place where it allows you (not a grass area, instead a gray floor area, like the 4-room one AFAIK), get a key for it and lock it. Keep the key safe with you.

what if i went to lawintholiel (or however it's spelled) and used the room across from the guy who teaches you how to pick pockets?

I don't hink i have a wand of door creation on me (i have a few unidentified wands, though)

i know that i have a key with me that i can use.

i didn't know you could just use any key to lock a door, i thought there were specific keys for specific doors.

1. Good idea, it's Lawenilotehl BTW.
2. Glass wand = door creation, always.
3. You can't, unless it's the Silver Key. Look at a door and if it shows a triangular lock, use a triangular key.

How much does it cost?
Don't expect a reply after this till tomorrow, though.

$560

but considering that i have only 52 gold pieces (i had even less just a minute ago: i spent everything i had on a tome of divine key), i think i'm going to have to do another dungeon before i can get it.

Just leave them on the first level next to or on the entrance stairs of the puppy cave. They will be right there waiting for you.

This might not be a very well-known fact, but most of the citizens of Terinyo, never step on the border of the village (the last step before you leave the village). So if you leave your stuff on the spot where you enter Terinyo, they will most likely remain safe

It's quite unsafe though, because the sheriff does, and he slowly and surely goes along the border in my games.

yeah, but you don't have to visit Terinyo a lot before heading to the CoC (atleast I don't), and when you go to the CoC it's best to take the books with you even if you get burdened/strained.

but if i leave them on the grass on the outside of the village, won't they get damaged by the rain?

that's why i'm not going to put them on the little island in the center of the village.

i know that the druid is the only one who can go there, but it will also get hit by the rain.

Only in the real world does things happen while you are not around. ADOM, fortunately, is not the real world, so you can leave books scattered all over the place without having to worry about them getting soaked.

Neat, eh?
