Just a random question. Can you wish for power points? What exactly do you wish them as? 'Power'? And if so, how many do you get roughly? Anyone tried?

you get a staf of power thats boosts your willpower, crappy. I dont think you can wish for pp directly.

you know about the tactic that you can keep wishing for and drinkng options of mana boosting and toughness boosting? Thats one way to have an archmage, you could start with some stat boosting potions you found and then wish for some more and then wish for other stuf you want, you'll only need to boost mana and maybe tougnes. I do think youll have to use your god to get you pp full each time and he'll eventually blast you.

Peanutgod wants to do an archmage you see, thats also why he wants pp.

if you cast wish your stats wil drop, making you unable to cast wish again many times, but if you keep your stats boosted you dont have that problem.

Well currently I'm on level 506 of the ID. Wishing for willpower with RODS is smashing my PP up, but I was just curous if you could wish for the PP directly. Another couple of hundred, and I have enough to cast wish easily enough.

Maybe because RODS are not unlimited.

PeanutGod: you can indeed wish for PP. The wish is "power" (without quotes). This nets the char 25 PP. Not much, but no-one told becoming Archmage was going to be easy.

I once wished for power and I got staves of power, but now I tried too and it worked too.

Just to clarify for PeanutGod:

You can wish for "power" to directly increase your PP pool as The Real J indicated.

However, you can NOT use wish to replenish your power pool. The two quickest ways for an Archmage to replenish their PP is: (a) pray; or (b) use the elemental orb of mana.

I noticed from a previous post of yours that you are intending to create an Archmage after completing D50. That basically restricts you to the pray-for-power-replenishment strategy (since you no longer have the orb of mana) which is a monstrous PITA. The Casino is your best friend here: win millions (and millions . . .) of gold, lug it back to a co-aligned alter, and start wishing/praying.

Whatever you do, DO NOT sack all the gold at once and then pray until you run out of piety because there is some sort of piety diminishing rate of return when you wish a lot and/or wish for the same thing over and over. Instead, sack just enough gold to hit the piety level that you need to wish to get your power replenished - then sack the next load of gold and repeat.

Relying on prayer to achieve an Archmage is very troublesome: one mistake (e.g. forgetting to sack gold before you pray) and you can end up greatly angering your god - potentially losing your crowned status.

For more insight into creating an Archmage check out some of the characters in the Hall of Fame (my own and The Real J's are two that immediately come to mind).

relying on the mana orb is also dangerous, if you forget to read scrolls of chaos resistance you can corrupt yourself to death.

Gozer: actually I think my Archmage is not in the HoF. I was thinking of posting it but IIRC didn't. I did post it in RGRAdom though ("Magus the gnomish archmage", IIRC).

My Archmage was quite hard in two respect: for one, being neutral I couldn't use darknight/silvernight to reduce the PP cost, and two: being 1.0.0 I couldn't use the bookcasting talents.

I did the PP recovery the hard way - waiting in wilderness.

ej: yeah - obviously you can die using the orb of mana as well. However, you can use the orb of mana a dozen times or so before you need to cleanse yourself of corruption (assuming you have the elemental gauntlets equipped and are corruption-free to begin with).

There is a BIG difference between forgetting to do something a dozen times in a row and forgetting to do something just once.
