I know many people listen to music while playing ADOM, but I'm thinking about taking it a step further and compiling my own soundtrack with thematic music for all the major areas, something like: overworld, ID, generic CoC, ToEF, Graveyard, Banshee level, etc.

So...what music would you use for some of the areas?

Godspeed You! Black Emperor. All across the board.

Other music tends to become somewhat meek in comparison, for some reason.

Whatever's good at the moment - I have a very random playlist, ranging from black/death/doom metal, to classical music, to club music/house.

An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
A realist sees a train.
And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks.

Whatever, as long as there isn't any lyrics. I'm very distracted by lyrics and it often leads to stupid deaths. I listen to soundtracks from other games for this reason. As for the areas...

Title screen - Arcanum theme
Wilderness - Quest for Glory (Soul Calibur 2)
Wilderness encounter - Pokémon battle theme remix
High Mountain Village - Fortress (Diablo 2:LOD)
Terinyo - Castle (Heroes of Might and Magic 3)
Puppy Cave - Gestation (Cave Story), maybe remixed

Can't think of any more at the moment.
Suddenly a stone block hits your head! Your looks improve. You feel more in touch with the world.

Oh God... "The Roof is On Fire" for the TOEF...

That sure got me laughing! I'll try that on my next game. Good one :)

You can just imagine the Wyrm at the top, singing the lyrics, whilst all the monsters have a good old dance session.

Eternal Flame by the Bangles could be interesting too - perhaps a little too soft for the circumstances though ;)

Hmm, for actual enjoyable music when playing the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian is brilliant. It's perfect for the dramatic fantasy setting. A number of Mussorgsky pieces work well too, and perhaps a touch of Grieg.

Ok, theres a band whos name ive forgotten, starts with V i think?, they do hardcore metal, but all the songs are named like 'questing forth for the emerald sword''down in the Unicorns glade' 'fighting through the Forest of Night'and so on. They are uber-d&d geeks, and if only i could think of their name, then their music would suffice :(

I don't really have a soundtrack for adom. But I just listen to music I like, as usually. That means mostly metal (death-thrash, black, extreme metal in general mostly) to some psychedelic progressive rock and lighter music.

Character death:
"The End" by the Doors.

Dwarven Graveyard:
"Thriller" by M. Jackson (yeah it will put some comic images into ones head. Silly dancing wights and zombis heh).

Crossing a bridge of frozen ice in some kings tomb:
"Walk the line" by J. Cash.

Playing as an assassin after reaching level 6:
"I got the Poison" by Prodigy.

When sacrificing a LOT of creatures to get a precrowning:
"Waiting for the miracle" by L. Cohen.

Fighting golems in Darkforge:
"Fistful of steel" by Rage against the machine.

Entering Terinyo:
"Shiny happy people" by R.E.M.

Fighting Balors:
Soundtrack from LoTR movie (when gandalf fights the balrog)

P.S. I just listen to random music like most, just had fun coming up with the titles. Dont know how impossible it would be to actually program it so that certain music would play depending on where you were in the game.
