First - what is easy mode? Playing as a troll? Because that is not easy in the midgame as you just found out.

Second - nice armor, just what a troll need - armor of hunger :). Well I guess you can just buy and carry more food

Third - Doppleganger king at level 10??. Very brave. I just killed one with a level 22 Troll, it was still very dangerous.

Fourth - "He did not ask for divine help". Well it must have been a one-hit wonder then...

Overconfidence is really the father of all fuck-ups, and the mother is "assumption". So that is oh so true.
If you add assumption: "I assume that is a weak monster" to overconfidence "I can take out anything on this dungeon level anyway" that a quick way to get R.I.P.-ed

Happens to me a lot. Which is what I like about this game, you're never so good that you can't mess up and die horribly.

Well, the easy mode thing was just me being silly - Troll Healer, Candle, Healthy talent... basically a mega-regen machine.

...and yeah, none of that matters if you get one-shotted.

For food, I bought a *ton* of cooked lizards at the arena, so I was hooked up fairly well.

I'm trying to figure out ways to make this regen battery even more effective...

Ring or bracer of regeneration would buff it even more. BTW, why weren't you wearing your ring of damage?

Trolls are easy at the beginning, but harder by midgame, I found. Food is hardly a problem though; with the Food preservation skill, my trolls just happen to eat whatever lies on the floor :-)

Overconfidence is truly your greatest enemy in this game...

Trying yo go through the dwarven halls at level 10 is simply suicide. High level monsters like doppleganger kings are bound to spawn, and you will get your ass royally handed to you. You should have gone through the forest instead, or spent more time levelling up in other areas, hopefully gaining the teleportation spell.

Trying to go through Dwarven halls is a calculated risk. But that means you go back if you see or suspect anything nasty waiting. Like that song, "Bravely bold sir Robin, bravely ran away..."

Very low, but still there. I've had telporting balors get very close to me there, and great black wyrms in firing range when I teleport to the stairs. Magic map + invisibility + teleport is of great help (pretty much necessary at lower levels) but with a level 10 character I'd rather go with the more minimal risk of the forest.

I've had balors spawn (killed it with ALOT of magic missile), a tension room of greater balor (thank you eyes of mind! I could run away without seeing it). I go with any character that gets there, I'm just bored too easily of the animated forest.
