Hey, my Drakeling bard learns the spells cast by wands of wonder. Is this unusual? It's very convenient though when it the wand casts something like wish or acidball.....

Yes, that's supposed to happen. Unfortunately, you don't get a whole lot of castings from doing so. Still, it's good for things like teleportation or invisibility, which really don't depend on the level of the skill for effectivity.

A good tactic for characters that aren't natural casters (especially the likes of barbarians and mindcrafters) is to keep recharging and using wands of wonder to get a good repetoir of spells and rely on book-casting for certain essential spells like Teleportation. I've never heard of anyone getting a wish from a wand of wonder before, though I have gotten the spell from a potion of wonder.
Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse."

Very good for mindcrafters. They should seriously consider the book-casting talents for this trick. And wands of wonder aren't totally rare, and they are not that hard to recharge either....
