People rave about this, but its not that effective. Use any weapon and a shield, and your DV will be high enough. I say this because im sick of spears. sick, sick, sick of them. What we need is more variations of big axes! |

I agree too chaos. Spears get "boring" after awhile. Also since most of the best spears, RCT, TotRR are two handed, so you can't use a shield. The only good two-handed weapon that I ever use is vanquisher....I love that thing. True, if I came across a sword of sharpness as opposed to my eternium spear, my spear would go bye-bye. However, in the very end that 15 DV can make a difference. A lot of this argument depends on how you play Adom. Obviously everyone plays to win (I think....) but do you have your character beefed up to get the max DV/PV/max damage etc. Or do you play the game in character. If I play a farmer, I'll have him use a scythe if I can, if I'm a wizard, a staff if there is a good one about. I'd much rather play the character in a particular way, rather than play every character I generate the same. I.e.....find spear.....find shield......use them for rest of game whether I be a barbarian/fighter/wizard/merchant/thief/ etc etc. You get the idea.... ------ Ladies and Gentleman, take my advice. the stupidest looking combo I can imagine is this HUGE troll, except he's carrying these little daggers. I mean, seriously, trolls use maces, spears and fists in all the movies(LordoftheRings). My last char used a shield and clubs, axes, spears AND swords, depending on what he was fighting. He had 11 lvl Mastery in axes and clubs&warhammers, 13 lvl Mastery in spears and IIRC 5 lvl in swords, daggers (phase daggers) and unarmed fighting. Sure, spears are for the DV, but you should use whatever you've got best. A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. yeah, my trollish beastfighter found vanquisher once, and I don't really care what class the char is, I'm obsessed with vanquisher. But yeah, Maelstrom's right. You have to use what the RNG gives you. You can't afford to be picky in ADOM, some weapon is better than no weapon(in certain circumstances) :P "You try to give Fang, the large dog the bone. Outside of Needle and Sting, as far as I can tell, as I've never managed to have "both", Executor is the best weapon in the game. I got it early and absolutely tore through everything in one game. Battle Bunny: "Ach, maybe his Christian altar was stepped on. By a moloch." |

First time I seen Executor, it was in the Dragon Caves. I wondered why I was damaged in the water every turn without water breathing. All I knew, I wasted hundreds of spenseweed curing the damage. I made darkness, got Exec, teleported out, then died later because I didn't have enough spenseweed. :( End of story. Is executor one-handed or two-handed? The axe is good, weighs alot. Spoiler Axe is 3d20+5 or so. Two-handed, not bad but is very good at getting crits.Executor, one handed some 5d6+6 and is also good at crit hits. Needle and Sting do some 3d4+5, but if wielded together they get some additional 50 damage. With two rings of slaying, nice ST, some skill in it you can quit easily on berserk get over 3d4+100 and 3d4+100. Quite nice for two hits in a row. Don't attempt the minotaur maze without 9+ scrolls of magic mapping and several dozen charges of teleport. Rolfs companion... not really great. 3d4 or so, and no slaying capabilities. Executor I was very lucky to get as a gnomish healer with precrown. Just coming back from pyramid to get all my stuff, got hit by a dorn beast. Managed to cast darkness, but the one turn I left darkness the bugger got me. So annoying. Homework is not meant for home! It's a sick verbal coincidence! -My brother |
