I'm currently trying to beat the game(for once) and I'm going to try with a gnomish barbarian that gets 4 talents( rerolling) and get alert, and heir. Thing is, I want to do the following things before I go to CoC: get waterproof blanket, kill kranach, save puppy, get detect traps, get precrowned lawful(vanquisher:D) kill hotzenplotz and other evil people after getting detect traps to get alignment up and get healing by saving Yriggs. Thing is, gnomes level up fast, and I usually can't do them all. Only once have I completed all these beginning goals.I went to terinyo, food , quests, etc., went to SMC, Kranach+gang attacked me, killed them(brutal mithril 2hander:D), blanket was room away from me, did puppy cave,precrown in process,got detect traps, got healing and got law.Problem was, shriek joined me in wilderness( for some reason) and before I got to CoC, a jackal pack attacked, and as soon as Shried appeared....CRASH! my game crashed, and lost file....so, do you guys think I should stick to this gameplan, cuz it is based on luck? It can be a good plan. But if you want to do these you could ditch some. First, why the hell get the puppy? You can get L+ without, but the dog is not worth it. You can get killed by ants etc., time passes, you gain levels you could use for killing Kranach, and so on. Next, I think you should get Kranach FIRST. If you get that brutal mithril two-handed sword, you should be able to whack them left and right on low levels. That will allow you to buy stuff and sac more early. No time right now, sorry. Am I the only one who never actually bothers to save the dog? I've got too many other things to be doing instead of saving that mutt. thanks guys, I ditched puppy quest. Rerolled and did questions about 20 times to get perfect char.Nice stats, found halberd of defense(nice) since they start with polearms at 2, and I found a whip so I can get lawful easily.If I get vanquisher I'll be unstoppable. I'm going to smith any colored scale mail I come across. Hopefully blue or red. If I get vanquisher for either pre-crown or crowning, I know I'm going to win! My typical barbarian strategy is: Get to CoC, Smith till ready for final hard stuff, quickling tree, final dive, get orbs....never made it to quickling part before, but there's a first for everything! For barbarians, especially gnomish ones, it's best to forget about the right-side of the river, and go streight to the SMC/UD. You'll come out in the HMV at lvl 11-14, fully equipped, hardened and most likely with access to herbs (To&Dex ~30). Sell all you've got, you should have about 10 000 to 15 000 gold pieces. Since you're a gnome, you've been picking pockets a lot - go get your thieves guild membership, get Detect Traps, get Healing - it'll be fast, since you're untouchable to the VD monsters. Next it's up to you - on your way to the CoC I suggest a visit the dusty dungeon, there usually are herbs on the first level. It'll be downhill from there, if you just find a decent weapon. By lvl 16 you should be able to clean out Darkforge. A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks. |

I got skullcrusher,so my gameplan has changed. I wanted Vanquisher. I lured Glod out with ventriliqism, killed him. I broke my pickaxe from the pyramid, so noone can fix it. I got my helm of waterbreathing to 5,1 my white dragon scale mail to -1,13, so I think i have decent armor. Is skullcrusher good enough?I have a halberd of defense and have level 9 in polearms.I have immunity to ice(armor) and fire from crowning. Will it be possible to get postcrowned in this file? I've already seen like 7 artifacts.I don't know if I'll be able to win without an uber-good weapon like vanquisher.... "You try to give Fang, the large dog the bone. Skullcrusher is fine if you want to go that way. If you got lots of artifacts, never forget that you may have missed one. I think you should definitely disregard postcrowning for now. Also, remember, Vanquisher won't win you the game, careful playing will though. If you don't have Vanquisher, think up a way for handling what only Vanquisher can handle in your opinion. Stupid bug temple, I was level 15, smithed till day 56, thought I was strong enough, ONE STUPID CLAW BUG KILLED ME!!!!I think that the bugs should not be able to see invisible!!!...... Lvl 15?! I almost died at lvl 30! With protector [20, 4], lvl 11 in shields and lvl 13 in spears. that's 118 DV and 800 hp... My advice - don't go to the bug temple, unless you already went past the casino. A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. My advice: The claw bug temple is very dangerous, and the mobs are fast, but you can be a speedy little ***** too. If you ever want to attack the bug caves, get high speed and/or 7LBs. Be faster and you will be able to handle it with minimal risk. (OK, call me Captain Obvious now, but some people forget that.) Yes, considered scummy. Wand of wonder to learn it. Then book-cast the spell so you never run out of charges. Takes alot of PP, but it works. Also, smithing wouldn't have helped you. Bugs bypass PV. Never go in there without wands of fireballs, fireball spell, magic missile, DV of 100 plus, HP of 500 plus, and a whole lot of luck. Speed helps too. Homework is not meant for home! A good spellcaster with farsight can take the bug cave safely enough. I bet a good archer could do it to but might be a little tougher the spellcaster can always teleport away if needed. "THE TH TALENT SUCKS!!!!!!" - Gut |

Jeremiah, bottom level of bug cave is not teleportable. Also, in the first room you need a wand of fireballs to take down the 10 or so. Then, shooting the killer bug rooms is hard. Spellcaster is much easier with it. And, with farsight you still can't shoot around corners :-/. Homework is not meant for home! It's a sick verbal coincidence! -My brother |

:) I must have forgot that you cann't teleport in there. But I don't mean use farsight to shoot around conners. Farsight just allows you to see the bugs befor they see you and that means u get the chance to back off, nuke or whatever. I don't ever ball the bugs in the first room to death, I only ever cast ball once; only more if it is life or death. I don't like blowing up items and if I am gonna go to the bug cave it is to eat them. I go down the stairs and then drag a bunch back up with me so I can kill via farsight/bolt.
