I hear about pre-crowning artifacts and I've gotten a few characters crowned, but I've never gotten more than 1 artifact out of the whole deal. Can anyone please help me out with this?

If you get extremely close to a god while not been either L+, N= or C- you get pre-crowned if you meet a scertain level requirement.

IIRC you have to be level 8 + (3 * number of generated artefacts)

So if 3 artefacts (for example the Ankh, the ancient mummy wrapping and the Si) hve been generated, you have to be at least level 17 to get pre-crowned (remember it's number of generated artefacts, not artefacts in your posession).

You can be post-crowned after a regular crowning too. Not sure if the same rules apply there (require a LOT of sacrifices anyway)...

I think that I understand. Once one meets the minimum level requirement and sacrifice a massive load of good stuff, the character gets precrowning advantages.

Thanks for the help.

Pretty close. You need to sacrifice enough to get "extremely close" to your good, and then pray (make sure you are not sick, wearing cursed items, need healing or are hungry when you pray, otherwise those things will be fixed rather than getting your crowned).

You don't need to sacrifice everything after you reach the level requirement BTW. IIRC you can get extremely close without meeting that requirement. However nothing will happen if you pray before you meet said requirement.

Nah it's not true... haven't you ever been to the casino - you can get extremely close without even being in the pre/postcrowned range. Sacrifice a million gold... it'll get you there easily. (i'll copy you a message buffer from a cheated charactor below.)

Also i've never been anycrowned without seeing the extremely close message - i've prayed without it and end up getting nothing.

And there is a score loss for praying the first time, after that it's insignificant. The piety loss for praying isn't too significant either.

A voice in your mind booms: "*WELCOME, BELIEVER!*"
The 5 gold pieces are engulfed by gray mist and disappear. For some seconds
the ground rumbles.
How many (ENTER = 387433)?
The 100000 gold pieces are engulfed by gray mist and disappear. Ne'Ftrr seems
to be extremely close to you.
You pray to Ne'Ftrr.
"Mortal, ye have done great service to my cause."
"Hereby ye art crowned to be my champion!"
You no longer fear the heat of all hells combined.
Something is lying at your feet.
How many (ENTER = 287433)?
The 100000 gold pieces are engulfed by gray mist and disappear. Ne'Ftrr seems
to be extremely close to you.
You pray to Ne'Ftrr.
"Mortal, ye shall be rewarded for yer perseverance."
For a moment you are surrounded by bright light.
Something seems to be lying at your feet.
How many (ENTER = 187433)?
The 187433 gold pieces are engulfed by gray mist and disappear. Ne'Ftrr seems
to be extremely close to you. You hear the chime of a tiny bell.
You pray to Ne'Ftrr.
"Mortal, ye shall be rewarded for yer perseverance."
For a moment you are surrounded by bright light.
Something seems to be lying at your feet.

Is it possible to be pre-crowned one alignment and be crowned in another?

I remeber someone wanted this RFE.
A fallen champion of Order/Balance can be crowned Champion of Chaos.
Dougy did you make that suggestion?
