WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*ahem* Kinda pleased now - just got my first victory in ADOM after over 8 years of playing!
I had to settle for a normal Chaos God ending instead of an ultra because of a little accident when I was around level 28. I was in a tight spot and prayed for healing, but was instead crowned chaotic! Was silly really, there were other ways out of the situation, and I should have been more careful about being C- and having too high a piety. Ah well, I'm pleased with this victory anyway, since it is my first.

THE GAME:

I started off going to DD and found an altar on the second floor. Killed weak monsters till I was level 8 and sacced till I got a pre-crowning - was very very pleased to get Preserver. Cleared the dungeon, the puppy cave and UD without much bother, but I was always careful to not go out of my depth and level up as much as possible. Found a RoDS in UD so I used it for eternium spears.

Did pyramid next and then some dwarven quests, and built some stats up with herbs. Did some digging in the dwarven graveyard, but without finding anything too exciting. Fed the ratling and did Gaab'Baay's quests. Also did the High Kings dungeon and the Rift without any great bother. After getting a ring of ice and construct-slaying ammo I went and cleared DarkForge. Found a very nice suit of eternium plate mail of resilience which I used to the end of the game. Another item I found here and ended up using for the rest of the game was Purifier. I was lucky to pick it up actually - it was an unidentified "heavy mace", and it's only because I happened to pick up every weapon in DarkForge and id them all that I realised I had it. I continuied to use it with great glee for a long time.

Scummed the pools to get a wish for an amulet of life saving. Saved Khelly and made good use of the Teleportation spellbook for the rest of the game - meant my Mana got trained a *lot*. Reason it never got to 99 was that I ended up using writing sets a lot, mostly on scrolls of education (wrote about 10 I think). Cleared the fire and water temples with great ease, and gained a fair number of levels in the process.

Dove down through the CoC, picking up the kitty ring and a few trinkets from the casino shop (no artifacts unfortunately). On a cavernous level I encountered a threat room of very experienced minotaur mazelords. I rashly tried meleeing them, but got pummelled badly, and that's when I made the mistake of praying. Alas I was crowned chaotic with Cat's Claw (never bothered using that). I nearly quit the game right then in digust, but then I remembered that I could still go for a regular Chaos God ending...

I continued diving, and passed by a greater vault - something I had never encountered before. It was practically filled with master liches and lich kings, but a wand of item detection also told me it contained a book and bracers - I knew which artifacts those must be. But right then even the lure of the mighty bracers of war was not enough to tempt me to take on the vault. I dived further. I cleared the earth and air temples, and killed the grues on D48 for the xp. By this stage my stats were starting to go through the roof. I was finding loads of PoGA and stat-potions, and making more whenever I found the right ingredients (PoCC + PoUH = PoGA - an expensive recipe, but worth it).

Eventually I came back to the vault, and after a lot of effort I cleared it. I was kinda low on undead slaying ammo, so had to make hefty use of Purifier, which meant getting a lot of stats drained. Emperor lich went down easily enough, but the fifty or so master liches took some getting through. By the end my To was somewhat ruined, but a lot of undead corpses mixed with sickness and toughness-reducing corruptions meant I was able to bring it back to great heights again quickly enough.

Unfortunately during all the vault-clearing I accidentally killed a kitty, and so lost my precious ring :( But still, I now had the bracers of war, which coupled with preserver, my bard's naturally high regen, and the fast-healing corruption meant I was never ever short on HP. I went on to clear the Mana temple. Found Wyrmlance at some point and put it to very good use in the blue dragon caves (where I found a wand of wishing and two RoDSes - were used on PoGA recipes and SoCR). Got a lot of experience and treasures from there - came out level 46.

Then I did the Filk quest whilst diving for the Sceptre. Went and killed the emperor moloch for the hell of it - he brought me to level 50. Brought the crumpled scroll to Khelevaster, but when I tried to give it to him he just looked at me with sadness. So I burned him. And the town. Slew everyone there, then everyone in the bandit town, murdered the water dragon, then razed HMV and dwarftown. Slaughtered a shopkeeper in UD that was holding back a RoDS from me. Killed the white unicorn (she was hostile anyway - couldn't get either of the damned unicorn quests). Went homicidal on Kherab after he gave me the shield and amulet of raw steel (which I only realised I could get after I talked to him and he instantly gave them to me). Cleared the casino of its denizens, and dove down to kill the AKW.

With no one left alive I was feeling a bit better about life in general, and went off to do some smithing (which is something I've never done before in ADOM - was amazed at the results I got) and wrote some more scrolls of education. Once it got to the next Dark Night I killed Keriax and got the final part of the trinity. Ate his corpse (I ate a few of the chaos corpses actually - they were no good to me once I was crowned chaotic, since the druid wouldn't give me any PoCC). I now readied myself for the final assault.

I dove down with the trinity (teleporting practically all the way). Uselessness gift was Far Slayer - would have been nicer if I'd brought more quarrels with me, but unfortunately I specialised in bows. Cleared D50 with great ease - ice ball and magic missile helped a lot, as did Purifier for the balors. Fisty fell quickly to the heavy mace. After that I hung around a bit on D50 till I had the necessary corruptions. Had found another RoDS, so used it for more PoCC to mix me up some PoGA. After I got to the extremely corrupted stage I downed all my boosting potions, used my last two RoDSes on wishes for speed, put on the trinity and stepped through the gate...

THE END:

"OnE oF Us, oNe Of Us!" the minions chanted as his body slipped through the warped plane. He could feel the chaotic powers roaring around him, wild swirls of energy meshing around his being. Yes, this was where he belonged, and he could see the creatures here were ready for change. They accepted him, and he would be their master. But then everything went black, and he felt a new power approach, one that rejected him even in his might.

A voice redolent in terrorising power spoke out of the blackness. "I am the Elder Chaos God, Andor Drakon. Who art thee mortal, who doth dare invade my realm?!"

But Tarindil laughed in scorn. "Look carefully, worm, for I bear the correct insignia! The trinity has been reformed, and I am here to lay you to waste! I bring forth a new dischord, a new tune in the theme of the world. And I weave in this music the chords of the true light and the true darkness, and against its mighty destiny not even you can stand. The power of chaos shall be mine!"

And at that the Elder Chaos God did chuckle, seeing here a challenge he had not had the chance to face in many millenia since first he had split the trinity. But there was a disquiet in him, and the outcome of the battle was hidden from his eyes. "Very well. It sHaLl bE A pLeAsUrE To sHrEd YoU iN mElEe!"

Tarindil felt the ground harden beneath his feet, and lighting a torch he found himself in an ever-changing cavern. A balor approached, it's skin warping like a swarm of insects, reflecting the vile hues of the corrupted stone around them. The bard brought his heavy mace sweeping down upon the demon, smashing through the creature's chest. Twice more he smote the balor in quick succession, before the demon even had a chance to lash its scourge, and the monster crumpled to the ground in a disintegrating heap of dirt.

He felt then the power of his true rival, and marching forth in proud strength he came to face the Elder Chaos God. He looked now at the abominable creature, but in envy rather than hatred. No mortal words were enough to describe this terrible force of evil, this unequalled concentration of chaotic energy. Here was a power Tarindil desired above all else. The Chaos God's thoughts turned upon him, and all about him malign and deformed creatures writhed up from the floor, masses of limbs and teeth flailing desperately at the grey elf. Tarindil took out a crystal of fire, and holding it up he crushed it in his hand and forced out the flame with his will. A towering column of fire flew out a hundred feet, and the pathetic creatures were instantly scorched into the dust.

Magical forces flew out from Andor Drakon - waves of ice and fire, and intense mental forces looking to destroy the mortal's mind and body. But they flew off Tarindil like a light breeze, unfazing him in the fullness of his wrath and power. He took out his great crossbow and cocked it with his most powerful quarrels. With great force and speed he shot the slaying bolts, and they seared brightly through the air like a shower of meteors. The Chaos God tried with magicks to hold back the deadly force of the quarrels, but a score and more of them pierced through his defences, sending shockwaves out as they ripped through his dark form. A scream of anger and defiance roared up from the Elder Chaos God, but it was in vain. Running out of quarrels Tarindil now switched to his bow, and with great strength he shot a mighty arrow that tore through the dark god's being, unstringing the forces that held him together. The chaotic energies were unleashed, and Tarindil raised out his arms in expectation. This was the power he had strived for, this was the power he was fated to achieve. A new God was born.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your corrupted tissue seems to heal much faster.
You have grown horns (+3 melee damage, Ap: -4).
You have grown a bulging cranium (Le: +6, Wi: +4, Ap: -6, PV: -4, To: -3).

*** Got rid of all my corruptions when I first faced Andy, and stripped more
off when I got him to critically injured.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                              His further life:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

After slaying Andor Drakon and absorbing his powers you quickly grow
accustomed to your new might. You enjoy yourself slaughtering your
opposition for a couple of moments and then prepare for a greater goal...
the conquest of your former home world.

To your own surprise you have to realize that omnipotence is a stretchable
word and that you no longer are strong enough (maybe due to the heavy
fighting before) to pass the Chaos gate or even send malicious energies
through it to harass Ancardia. Thus you bide your time and enjoy yourself
sending Chaos troops to Ancardia every couple of centuries.

This continues until you are finally strong enough to create a bridge
between the planes of Chaos and Ancardia. Sadly a nasty surprise is waiting
for you: the heroic folks of Ancardia obviously did not forget the last
incursion of Chaos and this time a hero is prepared to challenge you. Bathed
in the radiance of Law and Goodness He enters your home plane and challenges
you to a battle.

To your very surprise your dark magics don't effect him and you are killed
in a long battle. In the last seconds of your life, facing the might of the
hero of light, you wonder if everything could have been different, had you
made some other decisions in your mortal life...

Congratulations, feels good doesn't it.
Nice style with the mass slaughter at the end. Just as a chaotic would have it done.

Hmmm, got me thinking I'm way too nice.

Congrats! You've written a nice story for the last fight; after a few more wins, you probably won't go to that trouble anymore.

It's a good thing that you didn't quit in disgust. Rash decisions like that could have made you wait eight more years for an Adom victory.

How did you get gloves of smiting +7? The highest I've found is +3, and usually they're -1.

I found a pair of +5 gloves of smiting in the HMV shop, and then found the +7 pair much later in the game. I didn't know such high numbers were possible myself - usually I just find -1 pairs.

I didn't have a huge amount of luck finding equipment, but I almost never lost anything valuable. There were a couple of bracers of toughness early in the game I lost (didn't mind after I found BoW) and obviously some nice cloaks got shredded (though not my best one). Couldn't believe my SLBs lasted throughout the game - never had that sort of luck before.

Tarindil Chaotic.....interesting, I agree F50:D

Bards are the 3rd best class IMO.

Necros are 1st(Never die trick with artifacts, invincible except to petrify)

Mindcrafters are 2nd(ability to use spells, mindcraft, and everything else, making them the best non-cheap class like a necro described above)

Bards are 3rd IMO since they pets will NEVER betray you...which means an army of GM's with boosted speed is possible, with wish engine.
They are awesome also since they can master in ANYTHING, the sky is the limit(except for mindcraft)

But congrats Darren, well earned victory

Well, I never used pets really. I did make using of mastering loads of things though - I always had spells, missiles and strong melee to take out any foe. The immense number of skills I got was amazing too - I ended up only missing 6 out of the total list.

However, I've just started up a wizard and it really is so much easier to play at the beginning. Having a hugely strong offense at the start is extremely handy, as is finding loads of spellbooks to help with every utility. On top of that he just got precrowned with Preserver - second character in a row now. I wonder if he'll enjoy the same luck as my bard... :)
