Again I need some advice. I'm playing a human wizard (level 20 or something) crowned with brannalbin and acid immunity. I have got the RotHK but fire tower is a problem. I DO have several rings of fire resistance plus one b=oIce so surviving the heat without major item loss is no problem. The problem is that I haven't got ice spells (just 1 point in Ice Ball, learned from \oWonder) despite spending a lot of time trying to find spellbooks. Haven't done the library but my climbing skill is nowhere near 100 (I do have a climbing set though) so that's not an option. What should I do ? Currently I'm roaming around CoC in the desperate search of spellbooks. Game time is over 50 days so wilderness roaming is out of question (and I have only one ?oCR and no !oCC's). Should I just go in and try my luck (wielding a bMaceofDestruction ATM) in melee ? |

Ice spells just helps alot in ToEF but you can kill all of them with some other bolt sells too.... I suggest that you wield two good shields and just go there and kill em all! :o) Joka vitsaa säästää, saa kaatumataudin |

Well, if you haven't done the Druid's quest in Terinyo, do it and he'll give you wand of cold and spellbook of Frostbolt. Then you can always go the ID and stand on the stairs and switch levels. Then do it as long as a spellbook is created near you. This may take a lot of time though. If you fail to find any Ice magic use two shields as Crimson King suggested and switch tactics to coward. Or because you have Brannalbin's Cloak of Defense you are invisible so you can just enter the ToEF and blast demons&elemental with some other bolt spell. "Cruel Akron, bloody bastard I now spit on you. You can turn my bones to black ash but I will move the moon. I will light your evil kingdom and your heart will burn in flames. Mutilated or dismembered, we'll soon rise to eat your brains! -Warrior of Ice" |

Druid quest is no option, I already did the elder quest (damn it, should've thought of that !) ID is also out of question, I already spent a lot of time there hunting for spellbooks. And without means of removing corruption the time spent is just out of question. Maybe I could just use darkness to fight other monsters there and avoid grues and demons altogether (the corruption, the corruption) ? Damn the RNG, again you show your ugly mug...

You might want to go get some speed for running away if you need to. Bug temple shouldn't be a problem with invisibility&bolt spells. Speed makes every part of the game easier. |

The ID on levels 1-9 isn't a corruption zone, is it? Die Gedanken sind Frei |

Well, I don't even have much bolt spells either. Only some lightning bolt and magic missile (yes, not even fire bolt). Nonnak was a BIG problem without fire spells. As for ID, doesn't help much if gametime exceeds the 90 day limit, AFAIK then corruption rate REALLY speeds up. Oh well, maybe I should try ID anyway. Possibly I'll lose the char to corruption or something else but that's just to be expected from RNG... |

J: Start climbing regular mountains a lot, to improve your climbing skill. Also, wasn't climbing on e of the skills taight by the master thief? |

Using a pick axe (or whatever) to dig pits and climb out again also exersise the climbing skill a little. Not quite as effective as scaling mountains, but at last it doesn't take up as much game time... Jan Erik Mydland HoF admin |

If you've gotten to the Casino, you could get enough money for the master thief to train your Climbing skill up to 100 in no time. With a little practice climbing out of pits (the Pyramid has plenty, but take healing, sickness, and poison cures), you should be increasing the skill by 10-20 points every day or so. Hrmmm... shoudln't this be on the spoiler forum? Spoiler Two shields in my opinion is silly, not every monster there requires spells to kill. With a high enough level in polearms an orcish spear and 1 decent shield i believe is better. Mace of destruction would probably be adequate. Anything of penetration is your friend in this situation, preferably one handed. Another thing that would be really handy is the rune-covered trident. With moderately high skill in that and it's DV, PV and dex increasing stats, and the ability to slay fire grues and fire demons, it's rather easy to take down the fire temple. If you're born in the raven your set. Don't entirely block out melee just because your a wizard. However i'm assuming that a charactor whose done some scumming in the ID has got some nice bolt spells. Use them instead, when they're up to a high level your fire temple will fall rather swiftly. (if you've got potentially infinite magic missiles or something, cast it repeatedly, to increase its level (oh and use your hp up casting it too that'll train your mana)) Invisability in the fire temple is quite powerful. And it can secondly be taken to bugville to get some dex and speed, which means high DV and ease at avoiding the energy bolts the ACW shoots. However there is the problem of having 1 willpower making your bolts die out quickly. And secondly you won't get as much experiance from the fire temple. Water orb can give you that vital full heal and the extra 10 willpower to increase your spells range. Try and lure the ACW out of the cave until his back is against a wall, thus you can bounce lightning bolts and magic missiles to repeatedly hit him. Charge up a wand of cold, use all your potions of booze (get some from the beggars and bless them), scrolls of charging, potions of boost mana - stuff like that. Then there's always dragon slaying ammo for the archers amongst us - that'll slay the ACW. Take down darkforge if you haven't aswell - some good weapons and armor might load, plus giving crucial levels. And definately use that single ice ball charge, there isn't going to be a better use for it in the game. DougyDougy - Dougy - DougyDougy |
