*** CRITICAL INTERNAL ERROR:
*** SIGNAL 291 WAS RAISED.

This happens when I try to load a character. It only does it for some...I lost my level 32 human ranger to this error, and I just lost another promising game again today.

Has anybody come across this error before? And if so, how do I combat it?

I've been storing ADOM on a portable USB drive, that way I can play at work when I can. Maybe that has something to do with it..

Aaah, the famous 291.

I don't think you can do anything about it, and storing on a flash drive should have nothing to do with it. I play ADOM directly from a flash drive, I back-up often but never get any errors.

It's an "INTERNAL" error :D

That's maddeningly unhelpful, no offense.

There's has to be some explanation...I've been playing for about a year now and it's only given this error in the past month. But then again it is one of those 'internal' things... >_<

Yeah, I think I might just re-install it...I know the .svg file isn't corrupted, because I brought my HE ranger file to ADOM on my home computer (separate installation) and it did just fine.

Now I wish I hadn't deleted my L.32 human ranger file... >:(

Scan for bad sectors and defrag the flash drive.

Don't you backup your save files occasionally? I was having major problems with windows and ADOM crashing repeatedly, lost a lot of great characters. Now I simply copy the save file, and if my game crashes, paste it into the appropriate place so I don't lose everything. It's not scumming if you don't use it to ressurect a character who died due to the game itself.
