Are scrolls of increase melee accuracy and increase melee damage limited to melee weapons? Or can they be used on say, a long bow?

Tried it while holding a crossbow in the right hand, but even blessed scrolls just turned to ash. Nomen est omen...

pherhaps the crossbow was too high of stats already? i've noticed they have that problem a lot if the weapon is even slightly above average. Usually has to be real junk for them to actually work.

(+2/+3)
Nope - retried with an uncursed +0/+1 sling -> only ash (blessed scroll, right hand nor missile slot)
...but nice idea

are crossbows from metal (maybe they can be smithed up)?

Notice the word MELEE in the name of the scrolls? :)

I'm pretty sure that crossbows can be smithed, though.

My experience is that crossbows are extra hard to smith up, especially the best ones with the suffix "of accuracy". Maybe you can get a few points extra on them, but it will cost you a lot of ore, and then the thing will probably just get destroyed after all that effort.

Too bad there's no way to decrease the chances an item will get ruined. So many ways you can lose it.

Has anyone had any luck smithing up a crossbow? How many increases did you get on it?

I've never had any luck trying to smith up quarrels or highers metal arrows. Even the crap ones. Maybe it's possible with a lot of effort, but if so it requires so much as to be completely worthless.

i know it is possible to apply smithing on certain rings. Ring of speed, iirc. Has anyone succeeded in improving them? cause even my weaponsmith failed to do so.

I'm not suprised he didn't have any better chance of succeeding on them......they aren't weapons or armor :P

We should get a new class... "goldsmith". :P

With the rings of speed, what is increased? The speed increase? :O I thought only the DV and PV can be improved, but then again, I rarely smith. (Unless I'm playing a weaponsmith, whose point is purely to smith.)

About "goldsmith": Since weaponsmiths are able to melt stuff into ingots - can they melt gold-made items into gold-ingots and smith up golden items?

Rings of speed and mental stability have a [+x, +y] term to them, and from what I gather can be smithed. Sometimes you'll find them naturally with fairly decent stats actually. I've try smithing them myself before to no avail. I've seen results from others of +5 PV though.

Maybe smithing isn't even restricted to [+x, +y] rings. I do recall smithing up weapons without [+x, +y] which became [+1, +0] after improving...

Crossbows can be smithed, and is in my opinion worth it as they only require iron which I tend to have enough of anyway. If you have a good one of accuracy it might not be worth the effort - increases is tougher the higher the stats.

However, if you smith it just +2/+2 better - well that is the equivalent of a talent.. (for that crossbow, anyway)

Bracers of speed are good to smith up to and use iron. And weapons with special effects (sword of sharpness, phase dagger, regualar weapon of penetration) are worth spending iron on. But I would only wear higher-metal versions of common armor (body, cap, girdle, boots).

i've tried a bit:

i've smithed heavy crossbow from [+3,+3] to [+9,+10]. This is good ecpecially damage part.

rings no luck at all. and you get different message on them. anyway i could use smithing over RoDS with adamantium ingots. Still i see no evidence of ring ever being smithed.

old gama results:
