Hi,
Now this is going to sound totally absurd, vut I`ve been playing ADOM for quite some time now, but I still can`t perfectly understand damage dice.
Let`s look at a flail (+0, 2d4+2). So the first +0 means that it has no bonus to hit, and the +2 in the end is the extra damage that is added to the main damage. But 2d4 - what does it stand for? That two 4-sided dice are rolled? What are the numbers on 4-sided dice?
Does it do usually more damage, than say a quarterstaff (+0, 1d10+2)? If it`s a 10-sided dice, what are the numbers on that dice ? 1-10?

What do you mean "what are the numbers on 4 sided dice"?
When I read that I imagined a d4 with 100, 64, X, and a batman symbol on the sides :P

Dice are numbered from 1 up. That's the only logically possible way.

A quarterstaff (+0, 1d10+2) does 3-12 damage with even distribution (1/10 chance for both 3 and 12 damage).
A flail (+0, 2d4+2) does 4-10 damage with uneven distribution (1/16 chance for 4 and 10 damage and 4/16 chances for 7 damage).

A pessimist sees a dark tunnel.
An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
A realist sees a train.
And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks.

Flail average damage is 7
Staff 7.5

So overall Staff is slightly better, although flail damage is more likely to be closer to average value.

When ofcourse you need figure out things like wepon class (staves have better bonuses on improving weapon mastery) and onehander vs twohander.
Flail and a shield beats staff [usually].

dN is supposed to be N sided dice with sides numbered 1-N. (although three sided dice is more often made as six sided with oposite sides having same numbers)
Four sided dice in paper RNG is just good old pyramid

I've yet to see a real-life pyramid in the shape of a tetrahedron.

qouting wiki:
"A pyramid is a building where the outer surfaces are triangular and converge at a point. The base of pyramids are usually quadrilateral or TRILATERAL (but may be of any polygon shape), meaning that a pyramid usually has FOUR or five faces."

In real life:
a)Mars, Cedonia - it was supossed to be tetrahedron (oftenly called three sided mid, since usually basis is not counted as side)
b)

part seven. Apparently they do happen in nature.
c)
http://www.daylife.com/photo/0cyCacSgyU5EG
humans build them too.
d) masons liked them
http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/masonicmuseum/english_fob_collection.htm
e) and some say we have them

Any of these counts as real-life?

Nope :D None of those photos are even close regular tetrahedrons and only 1 is a building.
The Ryugyong Hotel has a much more complicated shape.'

P.S. I'm a natural born troll, don't waste your time arguing with me ;)
