Finally, get a good guy...an elven priest who has a gazillion spells DV up to 20 something and is generally kicking butt...but he has toughness of 5...just under the dwarven city an acid vortex comes around the corner and kills him immediately on explosion.

Darkness? Inivisibility? Morgia roots? :P Going that deep with To 5 is gonna incur a lot of risks...

I ate a bunch of morgia...but I got it UP to 5...lol...I've never figured out how to use herbs the way other people seem to be using them. Do you just eat em all at once? Eat 4 or 5 and wait a while then do it again?

4, then wait until it increases. Reapeat until it's up to the maximum potential. Then eat 8, wait until the potential increases, eat 4.

I'll give it a try...I'm a newb to informed playing...what do you mean by potential...potential ability levels aren't displayable are they?

On the character information screen ('@') there is a list of potentials for each stats - these act as ceilings that the stat can't go above without special means. Raising a potential requires twice the herbs as raising a regular stat.

Actually guidebook is not accurate on herbs.
I prefer increasing dossage by 1.5 at least.

Okay. Thanks a million...you guys have me able to get my Toughness up to around 15 and my Dex through the roof, generally (grey elf usually starts high anyway)...Any tips for other stats that are no brainers?

I would say eat the Oracle, but thats clearly not a no brainer. Its BRAAAAAIIIIIINS all the way.
