I have one character I'm trying to crown, and it's taking forever. I sacrifice si's, over a hundred thousand gold, rings (it's gray elven), living creatures, etc., and it just won't get past "very close". Is there a more effective way to generate piety?

Have you been precrowned? Try praying anyway every once in a while. And sacing gold is probably an efficient way to go about it. Else farm a lot of stomafillia.

If U wear an item that grants Doom U will never be crowned (crown of science for example)
until it sleep

For some reason, my piety was always decreasing even when I didn't pray. Maybe wearing the ankh does it (undocumented feature). I took off the ankh and put on another amulet.

Piety naturally decreases over time. Not a huge amount, but if you leave a long time between saccings then it's wasted effort. Best to build up a lot to sac and do it all at once. Only takes about 100 livesacs to get there though. Make sure you're the correct alignment of course - L+, N= or C-.

Yeah, that's what I did, and it didn't work. I sacced 50000 gold all at once, and it didn't make it. I then sacced about another 50000 over the course of time, and it's still not there. I think I wasted about 250000 gold total, not to mention all the livesacs and items.

Maybe next time I should save up 100000 all at once.

> I sacced 50000 gold all at once

That wouldn't have gotten you enough.

> I then sacced about another 50000 over the course of time

How much time? If you went to the wilderness and
w5'ed in order to generate Si's, then you may
have lost piety faster than the Si gold would
have replaced it.

If you have changed alignment along the way, even
for just a few turns, it would have reset your
piety. I don't know what alignment you are, but
if you sac an artifact, it should probably be
enough. There are several near-worthless artifacts
that should be available to you. Phial, Crown of
Science, Ancient Scythe, Big Punch will all grant
you a big piety boost, but the CoS and Scythe will
give you a L boost as well.

Neutral alignment; I went to the big room with the herbs and killed monsters to get their gold and items. Then I sold their items at Waldenbrooks, and I sacced the mummy wrapping along with all my gold and the rings I didn't need.

The ancient scythe is sitting at the Barbarian glen with the herb seeds, ingots, and ores that I have no urgent use for.

Right now, I've killed so many jackals in the big room that they are gods; I can 1-hit the hill giants and shadow trolls with my 2 dual-wielded orcish spears of devastation, but jackals are unbelievably scary creatures. Spiders and wolves are pretty tough, now, too.

Usually getting crowned is not this hard, but my character is, for some reason, losing piety as fast as he gains it despite not praying. Not cursed or doomed, btw.

Well, I went on ahead, just for the hell of it, and sacced every artifact I had, and I got myself crowned. Unfortunately, I got Grod, but I knew that was a chance.

It's just a game, and I can screw over a character if I want.

There is no lower limit.
You can get crowned at level 1 with 0 kills on your kill list.

I am giving plant seeds to farmers to gain piety.
How are plant seeds (which are gathered by Applying Survival in wilderness when bloated) applied towards piety? Is it a 1-for-1 piety point per seed? or is it per transaction(regardless of how many given per turn)? Is there a difference between Cursed/UnCursed/Blessed for this purpose?

What is the best piety gain method for plant seeds given to farmers?

Sorry Tusk ,this is coming quite late, didnt see this when you posted,-damn snpots.
giving things to npc affect alingment not piety.
piety you get by using holy symbol or sacking by the means of altar.
