Can anyone give me some advice for clearing it?
Just RIPed a very nice wizard there. Was trying to get SoCR to cure poisoned hands ...
There goes my only char who managed to kill ACW.

The bugs seemed to survive my Ice Ball +10 too easy (
Is Fire Ball any better against them? Or something else? Darkness maybe?

What level were you? If it was less than 45 then it was too early :) You need 7LBs, Wi over 32 (preferably over 48), wand of door creation to lock in some of the rooms and plenty of DV and HP for when things go wrong.

I was 24 )
DV was 94 (Coward Tactics) though.
Ye, now I see that was stupid. Should have run away when two killer bugs left me with 20 hp.

High Wi - for radius of Ball spells, I guess?

Don't train on the upper level (by killing bugs) before descending to the lower level for the first time, or the bugs below will get stronger because of uberjackal effect.

I think I was just fast and killed them with missiles... alternatively, learn music and tame a killer.

And I personally go to the Bug Temple in order to train Dexterity and Speed. High willpower does not help in this, as you lose it in the process anyway (but regain it quite easily with morgia).

I would recommend a DV of 150, wand of fireballs and potions of boost willpower. Wi=32 is sufficient for the room.

In the big room just nuke them standing outside the entrance using any wand (fire,MM,etc.) while in coward mode.

Well, I just cleared the upper level from killers, descended and got ripped apart in 3 or 4 turns =) Overconfidence and excitement make a terrible pair ...

> I would recommend a DV of 150

Wow, that's a lot )

Like, stave/polearm mastery at 15+, maxed out Dodge and Tactics, defensive talents taken + high DEX?

150 DV is easy enough to get with some good armour, a well trained shield, decent Dx and full Tactics.

Or just play ADOM version 1.0.0, where a single
spellbook of darkness makes you RULER.

A potion of visibility will temporarily remove it.

Cursed ring of invisibilty does not work. I just tried it. The was an invisibility ring in Dwarven shop. I found a hag and stripped down, took everthing off except the ring. She cursed the ring. Went and talked to Dak(?) at the arena wearing the cursed rinf of invisibility... Still wouldn't let me in. :(

For the bug temple and ruins, all you need is any of the bolt spells with decent castings(ANY one of them will work!) and a pair of blessed 7lb. You need to be able to survive 3-4 attacks from gcb:s while coward, not being completely sucky will cover that, and a wand of door creation with 10 or so charges for locking in the bugs thus preventing them from bloking your way. I normally clear the cave as the first thing when I get hold of 7lb, which at best, has been at lvl 15 with a necromancer(got 2 or 3 levels from clearing the cave).

I'd advice to have stealth atleast 80, so the killer bugs will simply wait in their rooms for you to lock them in with a door. Later, blasting them into oblivion will be a breeze. The level of the bolt spell makes very little difference, since a lvl 1 magic missile will kill them with 2 or 3 hits!

I gave up that idea, too.
Went to DF and dried all pools.
Lost TP control, Lucky and Fate Smiles, got cursed and doomed, but still managed to become visible again =)

5 minutes later i found potion of education, drank it and got Tactics ... RNG's really a bitch =)

If you want temporary visibility, like for completing arena quest, then a blessed potion of visbility is all you would need.
Otherwise, just like you found out, its PITA to get rid of it. Pools is the only option.

Aragorn,

That's IF you can find potions of visibility. I found one and used it. The blessed potions are only good for a couple of combats in the Arena.

I'm currently stuck in ID seeking a Ring of Ice for TOEF. I've found SLB, ALOS (x2) and Girdle of Carrying ( ALL found finally at 17th level!).

RNG has not been kind to me this game. :(

You have SLB and 2x AoLS and have perma-invis and the RNG is not being nice to you? Gee, I'd hate to see it on a bad day.

Ring of Ice: Unnecessary
Arena: Unnecessary

If you play the game as a "tick all the boxes to progress" quest then you're going to have a very boring time!

But if you are not prepared extremely well for ToEF, the game will be kinda short )

I agree though, ring of ice is unnecessary, especially if you are a spellcaster.

Perma-invis is a very annoying thing IMO. It takes forever to chase monsters all over the level instead of having them run happily right to your hits/spells.

And what I hate to see is people complaining of perma-invis being bad because monsters don't come right to you. You might as well whine about the ASB because it's not a one-hit kill.

No complaining )
I just don't see any real benefits from it.
When I'm in desperate need of invis, i usually have no problem casting it / drinking potion. When I don't need it, I don't want it.

I was mainly complaining about not getting the AOLS, SLB, etc until 17th level. As a Troll Thief, leveling is slow. I can live without 7LB and AOLS, but Ring of Ice is vital.

Agreed Arena is not necessary, but Ring of ICE is Very necessary for TOEF (IMHO). I won't go in without one.

Perma-invisible is a great thing!

Recently I've had a lv20-ish human fighter go in there with only fireproof gear (robes of resistance, ankh, some adamantium/eternium girdle and cap, mithril boots, rings under elemental gauntlets, eternium long sword, tower crystal shield), no healing at all, and he wiped the floor with the ToEF (the ACW was a bit nasty, but I had good enough PV). Be happy if you get a fireproof blanket. As it stands, I now have ~3 rings of ice with the character.

Maul,

You're right. I think I will just go in with Artifacts and higher metals. I'll leave the 7LB behind, just in case. I've found blessed wands of Cold work well in TOEF.

I have about 5 Fireproof blankets now.
