I'm an idiot, but how exactly can I melt stuff down as a weaponsmith? I have no idea what key C-x is.

C-x is Ctrl-x. Beyond that, you need a certain amount of a specific metal to create an ingot (I think it's something like 30 or 60 stones worth). If you have less, you'll melt the stuff down, but get nothing in return.
