Okay, so this is the first time I have ever got further than the terinyo area. I am really new to adom and am only just grasping the ideas of what is good and bad, what I can/can't kill, etc. I have read a lot, so I understand most abbreviations and what most things do (I think). To really shorten my story with this character, I took inspiration from one of gut's lets play guide (really good btw!)and took my wizard over to Bug Wilderness and levelled him to about level 10 or so. I then took him to id for about 15 minutes to get some books and teleport control, and then over to dark forge to get some armour and purifier (Which apparently is really good?). I was then unsure what to do (as I say, I am new to this), but gathered CoC was a good place to go, so I dived down to the arena, did about 10 fights or so, bought some lizard and dove to dwarftown. At dwarftown I bought and sold some stuff and waldenbrook, and then moved everything into a corner, as apparently that makes him restock. I found an altar (luckily neutral! Or is that a set thing?) and made my deity very please to bless my waters and then went and found thrundarr. It took me ages to figure out how to get a quest from him (although it seems obvious looking back) and so I did two of them and currently have the ogre killing quest. I am struggling with the ogres, so I am not sure what I should be aiming to do, where or when. So how am I doing? What tasks should I be undertaking, what equips are desperately needed and what stats need massive boosts? I'd also like to know if getting crowned would be a good idea now and if there is an easy way to do it. This place seems to have a really good atmosphere and seems really friendly. What you most desperately need is morgia roots. They're a type of herb which grow on the top-most line of the Big Room. Eat three at a time, and then eat three more any time your willpower or toughness increase. This will vastly increase your HP and improve the damage of your bolt spells. You may also want to give some money to Garth to train these (about 1500 per stat until you get a rise). Your other stats are all very good. Purifier is indeed a great weapon, though it's nice to see you're diversifying with magic and missiles too. However if you want to as a wizard you can use entirely magic for the whole game and just wear two shields. You don't have too many spells, but some of the ones you do have are great. Cure Light Wounds is fantastic because even if you cast it from HP it'll cure more than it costs. Spam the hell out of it. Most monsters can't see in Darkness, except for near doorways, so it's a good spell to use in corridors when fighting some tough monsters. Consider abusing this in the ogre cave if you're having trouble there. Lure enemies into dark corridors and bash their brains in with Purifier. I don't see why blasting everything with frost bolt isn't doing the trick though... Replace your helm with the horned one, and the ring of searching with the ring of mental stability, and wear those black leather gauntlets. These will protect you a bit more. Most of your best skills are maxed or high already. Consider throwing some points in climbing so you can access a special area later in the game (if you survive). Ventriloquism can also be surprisingly effective when maxed. Stealth is handy just so you get the first move on enemies. Carry on with the dwarven quests, and consider doing the pyramid and dwarven graveyard (south-east on the map) at some point. You'll definitely want more HP before facing their bosses though. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Thanks so much for your reply! I did eat some morgia that I found earlier, but I ate like 15 in one go thinking that would be quicker. Whoops :S Any advice on harvesting herbs? I know there's ways to make them go on forever, but I can't get my head around how to position them well and keep them going. Also how do I know if they are withering or healthy? And with garth should I invest 1500 at a time? Or can I invest 15000 and it will gradually grow? I have made some progress ( can't post file as I'm on my phone right now). I managed to tackle the ogres, I found that frost bolting and burning hands took them out with relative ease. With the wand of fireball I went to the pyramid and using a map teleported to both sets of stairs, teleported to rehetep and took him out in two blasts of my wand. Is this tactic frowned upon? I felt bad that i didn't have to deal with any traps. I also killed the arena champion, which was pitifully easy with see in invisible. Turns out I had that intrinsically before mummy wrap as well (some potion showed me my intrinsics, see invisible, poison and acid resistance, teleport control). I went and tel khelly die. There was a pool before him which I tried to get a wish from, but it made me sick and attacked me with snakes after sapping my paralyse resist I got from another pool. Is there anyway to drink safely from these for a wish? I went as far as the graveyard in coc and then turned back, after getting a cloak of invisibility. Awesome! Now I'm stuck for what to do. Completely unsure hehe. I went to do the graveyard quest you said about, but the graveyard isn't there. Thanks so much for your help. Any other tips and advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Crowned ain't really an option right now unless you have a co-aligned altar in a busy dungeon level. It's not too important anyway. For harvesting herbs get them grouped in 2x2 squares. You can 'a'pply herbalism to see how strong/withered each bush is, and if you don't pick any withered bushes the 2x2 square will stay stable. Garth is best done 1500 at a time. Giving him a big amount will work too, but not as effectively. I regularly teleport about and blast Rehetep without bothering with traps. Some may frown on it, but it's a very common tactic :) Pool drinking is intrinsically unsafe. It's even worse if you're doomed - no chance of wish then. In general I'd say you shouldn't sip at all unless really desperate, because you can get some game ending effects. Speak to the dwarven elder about "portal" and he'll reveal the location of the dwarven graveyard. After you've done that the next target would be the tomb of the high kings, in the far top-left of the map (you need a climbing set to get over the mountains).
