Am I the only one having problems finding RoI? I have played MANY games on 1.0, and the RoI seems as rare as as an AoLS... Many of my charactures start great, but get wasted by the ToEF. My current guy <L-21 gnomish ranger> has done everything imaginable but the ToEF, im stuck, ...there have been 2 ring shops generated in the game, <7 PoGA, 3 artifacts in darkforge, sword of sharpness in the UD, 3 different dragon amors,tons of stuff i dont usually see>, and first i put all the rings on one space, so he would restock, didnt work, so i bought them all, still no RoI!!, such a lucky game and im gonna get fried!! no wish yet either, but ive avoided the pools, got invisibility on first drink called it good. any ideas? |

Invisibility isn't good. Problems with food;) RoI are rare, but isn't necesery in ToEF. equip only artefacts, eternium, adamantium or crystal items and fight:) RoI is founded easly in casino shop, and when you fight with lots of dragons. Hrmm invisability + ToEF = breeze... you don't need a ring of ice, just remove all your non-artifact non-eternium equipment before entering. Make sure you carry a blessed fireproof blanket, and that you're not doomed/cursed. Generally before i enter the ToEF i always wear my 2nd best stuff if i don't have ring of ice. That way if it burns it's not so bad if you lose it, but you still get the armor value. PS: one might note that you can't get to the casino without the orb of fire. why does inv. cause food problems? i have 80 blessed lizzards, 12 blessed stomofillia, food preservation at 100<gotta eat your bugs>,im always bloated w/speed at 158,i have never had a problem with food except playing trolls...? id rather be invisible...but even my blessed pick ax was burned on lv 1 of the tower...such a great game that is looking bad... |

don't take it out until you need to use it... keep it safe in your fireproof blanket (i'll assume you have one) wands of digging make things a little easier here, charge them up with a vodka martini. DougyDougy - Dougy - DougyDougy |

this is why i think my lucky char is going to be toast....i went from dwarftown directly to ToEF, i had enough holy water to drown god, was just crowned <got Natures Friend grr> and shock imunity, wearing the Anhk, red dragon scale, RoL noonies blade, elem. gantlets, you get the idea my blessed fire blanket burned before i got to the first up staircase...im not worried, all my "good {#2} stuff" is sitting safely in the barbarians house, including my second pick axe... im off to retrieve it along with my SECOND fire blanket, and i went from CN to N= for giving the girl a dead dog, go figure... |

My Way of going thru the ToEF is to get the science crown, it's perm. cursed an' doomed but i pray to get them off, then it's in my head and fate smiles upon me.. i just hate the final lev of ToEF because get so corrupted.. any ideas of easily beating that place..? Got the Orb only 2 times in past 3years.. Duh, troll juice.. |

When you are always bloated then you lower your dex. Final level in ToEF are have bacground corruption effects... Hmmm really invisibility from the pool didn't work to your consumption of food??? Hmmmmm but you are champion raven so who champion cares about food?:) Aaaaaaaa raven take few blessed scrolls of uncursing, when you pickup some items when it is cursed it's easily deamged by fire (and others) and finally your fireproof blanket is fast destroyed. Natures Friend is nice +15 to speed:) two immunity, and it is artifacts it's not deamged:))) Heh a really lots of water are about 100 potions:) "Insect, we care not for thee. I finished ToEF only twice so far and once without neither RoI nor fireblanket. Just drop all the stuff in the glade, pick up only artifacts, get bloated before walking in the tower and pray for a pick axe on the top level. |

Got once a char wear the crown of science, a dwarven barbarian. Go through the TOEF with only 3 problems. First, i got hit a lot of times by a fire demon. Go up and use survival skill(100) and as well as to heal. Then second difficulty, got smashed nearly to death by a darn fire giant king. Same thing, up for food and heal. Third, was at last level, ACW's energy ray got me to 10 hp and up to heal. After this, next battle, ACW died to 4 mighty blows. Crown of Science- Just curse and doom. THat's all. Bring only items that will not be burn. Use teleport from L1-3. Just think of a way to heal yourself. Items useful will be bracer of regeneration, necklake of rapid healing, ring of regeneration and lots of healing potions. Especially extra healing potions and ultra. [get them after doing the dwawf quests] and ring of Ice. Fireproof not useful as one is wearing that crown. wouldn't it hurt a *lot* if a suit of metal armor melted on your body? or if your boots caught on fire?! (ok, the melted armor would hurt more.) IMO when your eq melts/burns you should take some damage. more depending on the item (perhaps if you have lots of speed you can eliminate the damage from melting/burning eq, with the easier stuff first. cursed of course would hurt you no matter what (can't get it off). ivan.sourceforge.net |

If a person if fire resistant it wont hurt him.I mean if the heat of the ToEF cant hurt him how would his melting armor hurt him. I got only one thing to say bout RoI.Dont ever waste a wish on them. THE MESSIAH,I'm here now,Worship me. |

my second try was quite succesful...my blanket was fine, pick ax didnt break or blow up...in fact i lost a long bow of hunting, and a cloak... that was it....no fuss no muss, whacked the worm and left quickly <did raise a ton on fire giant kings and a few stomoemptias> im at a loss to explain my first try though... oh well i got the orb thnx for the help... |

Don't waste a wish on RoI? Why? THa Messiah, isn't this stuff great in Toef and as well as protect your equipment from fire attacks-(red) dragons, wyrms, worms, demon, grues, elementals, baby red dragons? It helps in protecting scrolls and some others like books or tools. Jack yeah but only when you fight meele. When you use dragon/construct slaying ammo, you don't care about fire atack:) RoI is a great help in ToEF, but you can surivive in and protect your equip without RoI. And if you immune to fire, lucky, and fate smile at you and if you wear ankh and blessed and you have blessed fireproof blanket you are a realy lucky one, and blessed item willbe very very but realy rare destructed... Much more destructable than fire is acid atack. When I have a vault with black dragon and if I have immunity on acid, I usually wear only artefacts. And with empty backpack I cast web lots of webs, fight and pickup everything. Why "#" in Auto_Pickup didn't work like flags everything like in check inventory??? And when I found something special, RoDS, SoChR, or PoCC, than I back on level up droped and back to fight. RoI protect only personal equipment, not protect stuff in backpack. There is more powerfull items in ADOM to wish than RoI "Insect, we care not for thee. Yes Jack dont waste a wish on a RoI.Exactly what BM says. RoI are great for ToEF.But you can just dump your non artifact and iron,leather items.Usually higher metals wont melt for the time you spend in the ToEF. IMHO this marks the diffrence between an advanced player and a normal player. Instead of RoI wish for GoGS,seven league boots,AoLS(duh) and heaps of stuff. Also try not to use wishes for SoCR. Messiah wishing for SoChR sometimes is waste, sometimes is good. In game are a lots of guaranted PoCC and SoChR, and one nice quest:) But when you planned a long, a realy long game, to check how long you can have survived without "blobbing". No I have Trollish Thief (lev 38) 1 year 209 days in game (something about 780000 turns). I used something about 15 PoCC and about 20 SoChR. When I use smithing in dwarven city I get one or two corruption effects:)) (hundreds ore to smelt = hundreds ingots to use = armor [+13, +20] and better). This is my personal challenge;) OK I can get SoChR from Ghost Libriarian and cleansing from great white Unicorn, but it is for the last moment. My thief stole 2 WoW, and found 3 (3,1,3,0,3 charges). Stole 2 or 3 artefacts (Wirlwind, Preserver, and probably emerald dagger) And stole a few RoDS, and found a lots of them. I wished for herbalizm (food!!!:) and rest of wishes for SoChR. Some SoChR and PoCC I just stole;) And maybe there is some kind of bug? Special power of thief when he gets level 32 (Pickpocketing is more efective...) Heh he is more efective in finding rare items. All my PC found was only one WoW. And at last, when you get a lots of stuff from blue dragon cave, you make selection and drop in wildernes all trash and keep only nice stuff..... Hmmmmm I don't know, but I observe that when you have only some nice stuff it's a tendention to generete more trash, and little nice items. Maybe I should drop trash someplace where nobody can't pickup it:). But after having being generated about 20 RoDS I didn't found/stole any. Limits in ADOM? Or maybe some kind of "saturation".
