I was just reading a spellbook of light with my level 1 druid in the small cave, when this happened :
You start to page through the spellbook of Light. Congratulations! You advance to Level 2.
Congratulations! You advance to Level 3.
You do not gain any new insights by perusing this tome.
2 levels from reading a book,eh?I knew you could gain exp. from stuff apart from killing, but reading?!??!Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Learning spells do not give you exp. Most likely a fireball trap killed multiple monsters elsewhere on the level while you where reading (monsters dying in traps give you exp). I have always though you only got a small portion of the "available" exp for this, but if a fireball trap took out a room full of monsters it would probably be enough to get a level 1 char to level 3...

People do ocationaly report "spontanious" level up's simmilar to this, except usualy people are just walking around rather than reading when it happen, and this is the first time I have heard about anyone gaining two levels at once this way.

Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom.

Hey how in the world do you uncurse items?

Um, what does that have to do with this thread?

Anyway, you can uncurse items by reading a scroll of uncursing, praying (if you have enough piety). You can also bless items by dipping them into holy water

Spoiler
Bless a scroll of uncrusing and read it, it will uncurse ALL your items at once.
