I think the ultimate challenge is playing ADOM without inside knowledge to give you any chance with the learning curve of the game. Perhaps just jump into a new game, create a character by fate, and skip the manual...
Play it "out of the box" without all the research I find myself constantly doing...look up enemies, areas, NPC's, PC stat info... and get through to completion (any win) as soon as possible. (of course, to a person who doesn't know the game leveling your character would have a larger margin than going beyond PC level is x more than danger level).
What do you think?
Has there ever been a game harder than when YOU first played?

Have been done, Not by me but... Yeah have been done. And no no game been harder than adom. Was not so spoiled at start but then i vwas introdused to the game and spoils at the same time by the same person,who by the way gave up on adom after few years. My personal woe was that i tried year after year ultra ending and every time something went wrong like 30 lv terrinyo i just quitted. At some point a year or two ago i finally got to point where i had two ge wizards who tried ultra and archmage at the same time
when other of the characters forgot the minotaur maze. I was contemplating quitting but did not and started or continued the other character.
Luckily at this point i desided to watch silfirs
Let's play adom and i started to think the normal win did not seem so hard and so i took the
maze-less character and won the game in few hours. Later i did the same with the other archmage character when it got boring and didnt know when the assasin prince's messager (if there is one) would gome after 45lv and blue dragon caves. So yeah stopped that and started exiting phese of palading, mindcrafter and farmer characters. currently enjoying playing a Dwarven palading who while rescuing puppy found masterwork
mithril flail of penetration swifted to axes after geting rolf's sviour and companion (correctly axe on left and shield in right hand for +10 bonus to hit and damage) D15 vault spider dropped nature's friend fine leather armor and Casino was jackpot there was bracers of war and soaker,crown and ring of regeneration and humanoid slaying arrows(killed cats in this game)
also had trouble finding enough adventuring gear but casino had probably suffisiently for some time. Did not pre or post crown but did herp farm for learning training with Garth. Had to melee ACW as my only firebroof blanket got burned halfway through first floor and did not want to searsh id for new ones and did not want what litle ammunition i had to burn. Use spenseweed and water orb for healing two or three times water orb for wyrm only. Now i have a shortcut to surface and redying to go futher. I dont know if i want minotaur axe as this is clearly a shield
guy and its wery considerable risk. Also i have no idea how non wizards clear bug temble. So Yeah ADOM continues to challenge you if you let it;)
