Where can you get one, do you have to complete a quest or can you just find them wherever.

You can get them wherever. It's a rare "normal" item so you can find it almost everywhere.

Well I'm doing Thurundarr's first quest and he told me to slay a ratling fencer. Luckily, one level above Dwarftown is a merchant selling nothing but Figurines. I wasn't sure how to use them in the game but I assumed they would summon that creature type (based on my old D&D knowledge). So I bought a Ratling Fencer Figurine; except that now it won't let me equip into my Tool slot, as in it doesn't show up in the list of items I can use there...

Anyone know what the problem could be?

There are even "pet shops" around who specialize in selling figurines...

I've never found such a shop when playing at home... but I found it several time when playing at school during the lessons :)) It's strange, cause I play A LOT more at home.

I once found a pet shop too. It could be interesting if a player with loadsa dosh bought out such a shop several times over and then created a private army on D:50...

why not ChAoS? then you might stand a chance of a pet killing Andy.

I've done it (with a cheated character, of course).

Two blessed Acid Vortex figurines did the job nicely...

However, any other figurine-summoned monster doesn't stand a chance; Andy regens too fast.

BTW, the ending is the same as if you killed him yourself...

Oh yes... when I did this, Andy was down to critical, BTW... if you wanted to limit yourself totally to vortices, you'd have to set about twenty of them on him.... :D

how do you make a statue/figurine of a vortex? that would be weird...
hmm, idea: statues are statues (duh), but perhaps figurines are just a little disc sorta thing with the named monster held in a kinda stasis in miniture above it...

Found a fire beetle statue early in the game (level 4) but it says "You have no idea how to use this" when I hit shift-u.
Help!
thanks

drset81, you may have found a statue of a fire beetle. A statue is different than a figurine of wondrous power as in it is fairly useless. But, there are a few things you can do with such a heavy(2000s) thing...

Spoiler
Statues can be thrown to break doors(including locked ones) and kicking a statue untill it breaks might create a wand. Blessed statues are more likely to leave a wand.

If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
