Those would be standard roguelike controls. Nethack and Angband use them (well, Nethack has an option to use the number pad, and Angband might too).

How to remember which key does what... let's start with hjkl, the keys for horizontal and vertical movement. You can remember that they are the keys for moving the cursor in vi (a Unix text editor), or that they are arranged in exactly the same way that the arrow keys used to be on the ZX Spectrum. (Maybe you're too young to remember the Spectrum, but you might have used some type of free Unix.)

For yubn, the diagonals, you just go by the pattern they're arranged in (y is northwest, u is northeast and so forth).

still they're weird.... i don't like them. and moria won't let me use the numpad. it'll take me way too long to get used to those controls and once i am, i bet i still won't like them...

moria will let you use numopad, I don't remember how, though...

I've won moria, but I still think the Barlog is less powerful than the ancient multi-hued dragon.
The dragons in moria are like 50 times more powerful than the ones in adom.

You can use number pad try turning num lock on and off, worked for me!
