Hmm, I have a link to a internett jorgan lexicon somwhere at home. I'll post it when I find it (I'm in the middle of installing a new computer, and the old one with all my stuff on it is currently standing in a corner with all it's parts showing...)

IIRC foo (and bar as in "foobar") doesn't mean to much. Just a "replace-this-with-whatever" word that somehow got popular among Unix hackers in the early days of the net.
