I need some advice. I'm playing HE ranger and I'm not sure what should I try next. He is lvl13, DV33/PV10, armed with swift long sword (1d8) and mithril scimitar of penetration (+1, 1d8+3)

I did the puppy quest and druid quest

In the beginning I checked the location of down staircase in SC. VERY far away so I decided to wait until I have teleport control(I've got WoT)

Dwarven elder asked me to slay vapor rat >_< (I usually have better luck with this quest, where should I search?)

Went to the graveyard, cleared the surface level but the underground level was too tough (Griff himself attacked me first. I wanna do it gently with holy water but I have no means to get to the tomb)

Haven't tried the pyramid yet, I'm scared:) Griff and a couple of mummies kicked my ass in the graveyard...

Any ideas how to proceed?!?!?

As for the vapor rat...

Can you survive the Big Room? If so, that's your best bet.

Griff is more difficult than the pyramid (depending on which monsters are generated at the top.)

Actually, you might find a vapor rat at the top of the pyramid.

If ALL ELSE FAILS, you could always wish for one.

Ryan:he must get wish though, and if he manages to do that that early, wish for AoLS is obvious.

Never saw a vapor rat in the big room. Maybe it would be easier to look in the ID? Anyway, there are some guaranteed in the Air Temple :P.

I've only see them randomely pop up. I've seen them everywhere from the early levels of the CoC to Darkforge, to the ID. You could start another character(?).

Another character?! That's lame. I never abandoned a char just because dwarven elder gave me something rare to kill.

Thanks guys.

I think I'll wander around in ID for some time. Vapor rats can't be that rare!

And as soon as I find a WoTD I'll depart to the pyramid. I'll smash Rehetep somehow...

Wish me luck (If you happen to have a WoW or RoDS:))

Wand of Trap Detection I guess...
Very useful in the ptramid if you don't have Detect Traps skill.

I've had to start a new character before after the Dwarven Elder asked me to slay an Great Karmic Wyrm. Wasn't worth the effort to wait around until I could find one of those beasties.
But as far as the vapor rat issue goes, the next easiest place to find one (besides Air Temple) would be the cavernous rooms in the dungeon you get the Ring of the High Kings. If one doesn't show up there before you're level 16 (so you can still get into the Pyramid), you have the worst luck in Ancardia, try another character!

Can the Dwarven elder assign you to slay any monster? I mean like "slay an oracle" or "slay an ElDeR cHaOs GoD" or "slay a greater balor"? I had him assign me to kill a Hill Giant Chieftain (there are some in the wilderness, if you are lucky, after day 90), a Moloch and a Frost Giant Jarl, so i wonder if you can get more unlucky

I don't think unique monsters can be assigned as quest. My worst were white baby dragon, berserker lord and... orc scorcher. Today I searched for one for a looong time (not mentioning that I cleared an orc vault just before the quest).

Orc Scorcher?! That's and easy one:
Wilderness--->Forrest---->orc scorchers
Greater balor isn't unique - it can be wished for, they can appear in the chaos plane, and propably in the Dwarven halls.

Wish for greater balor results in "Nothing happens" IIRC.

OK. he died.

Searched the ID on levels 4-8, no vapor rat :(

Went to CoC, to dwarven halls. There was a fire giant king in the first room.... I thought I had him. I had 8 quarrels of giant slaying which brought him down to critical, but I didn't manage to finish him in melee....

I also played a HE fighter who got to lvl16. Cleared the pyramid and graveyard... EaSiLy

But of course my luck with RNG stroke back.... The first grave with "great treasures" and (suprisesuprise) an Emperor Lich >_<

I got him down to critical with my WoFB an sword of sharpness, but eventually it blasted me into pieces.

Oh well.... starting aaaalllll over again :(

Some stupid things by eL (don't follow 'em EVER):
-Start cheating!
-Try to sacrifice yourself on a real altar.
-Try to sacrifice one of your enemies on a real altar.
-Try kicking the stairs.
-Try killing evryone around to gain xp and become chaotic and wish for lucky PC.
cheers
