Make one file: *.bat

copy *.svg adom_dat\savedg
adom

make another file **.bat

copy adom_dat\savedg\*.svg c:\adom
*.bat

the first file is a reload and the second one is a save and reload. Have someone else explain it to you in detail as I'm tired now.

All sorts of numerical value changes are easy to do with Gamehack.

Well, it's simple really...

The answer? BACK-UP!

Because of the feature of ADOM as a rouge-like game, you dont get to keep your characters if you die. That's because everytime you load your save file, that file is loaded and then deleted. So if you die, then...byebye high-level char.

*BUT*, if you save your game in tight spots, and copy that file to another folder, then if you DO die, you can recopy that save file from that folder, and your char is BACK!!! (with a vengence!)

Just curious...is it really that BAD to do that save scumming thing? It just seems logical to me, especially if you have already gotten far in the game and you would like to keep your characters alive.

I accept save scumming for newbies (if they just stop it after learning how to play) and for finding out secrets and testing things.
Yes, it can be quite frustrating to lose hundreds of promising characters, but the feeling when you finnish the game without save scumming is something greater than after save scumming.

Try it... It only takes patience. :)

I could tell you how to edit the game to get any item you want (including artifacts) and any number of them. But I won't. Nyah nyah nyah.

i scummed all the time before the 1.0 version, didn't nkow you could back it up until recently. but i've had more fun playing..except for the merciless deaths this game deals out EVERY time. i've started using archers instead of wizards. made it to lvl 17 with a grey elf archer. the first archer i made got penetrating arrows of slaying on the first use of flethcery. haven't seen them since then. the heri gift is great for archers too. but hard to get 4 skills to allow for treasure hunting.

it's tough to decide whether or not to cheat, i just had an archer die with an amulet of life saving int he backpack, really depressing. but, the moment you back up and resurect yoru character the game loses all intensity. my girlfriend has made it to the mana temple and once to the blue dragon caves w/o any kind of cheating. it just takes practice. avoiding poisoning and traps in the beginning, then choosing the right equipment from there on out and just flat out being careful. i dunno, cheating's all right to learn the game but it's not great fun cause you don't have to search for items or anything.

I don't know... it's just that losing high level chars are such a waste. Right now I'm waiting to be assigned the Filk quest, which has an exp requirement. Since a was about 3-4 levels short on exp, I decided to hang around in the SMC. And I was forced to back-up my files... Imagine, dumping a master lich that summoned at least 4 times!!! I died about 15 times or so before killing that lich and the undead that it summoned.

SWC is probably the hardest dungeon when you've got that high of a level so you were basically asking to get killed. And I don't think anyone forced you to save-scum.

Oh and Ghuri I feel so really bad 'cause you called me a loser. Boo hoo :)

"you were basically asking to get killed"

Maybe so... but I needed to get experience, and I didn't want to go deep in the CoC, so that was the closest solution that I found...

By the way, everytime I killed a greater moloch, I kept rising a level!

That's why people love them so much they give good exp :) Just don't get near one. Esp. in the small cave the level 100+GM's will hit you with 10 critical hits in one turn. Bye bye char :P

Yeah, I know. By the way, I noticed something while dealing with the GM. My skill in daggers stopped rising after a few attacks, because I "have already learned all the tricks from a particular monster" So my dagger skill will not rise again from the same GM, right?

So I used my my missile weapon (Whirlwind) to attack him, and guess what? My skill level in slings kept on rising and rising! I got about 5000 (!!!) points of skill level from him, because every successful hit gives me 17 points, and most of my hits never penetrated his armor. Has anyone got the same experience also?

I've heard a couple of times that the SMC is good for training weapon skills esp. missile skills but that's a huge amount of weapon marks!

Yeah, I know. But don't you find it strange that my missile skills got that much of an increase? It's like there was no limit to it.

BTW, it became a huge amoung because I attacked him a lot and most of my attacks didn't damage him. Wel, good for me!

Could be that the limit you get from one monster is only for melee weapons. Maybe the game doesn't distinguish between different monsters when you shoot missiles so there's no limit you can get from one monster?

No. It doesn't do anything. If you hack the savefile then it's different, you "run out of luck".

I don't think missile skill marks have a limit...but eventually, the moloch was killed by my constant firing. Too bad... :)

Well, there are plenty more generated at the BDC.

Actually you don't. Here is how to get a wand of wishing. (GET A HEX EDITOR!).
Hi all,

Here is what I do to get a wand of wishing. Note that the item you drop does not have to be a wand. I usually use one gold piece (or a torch if I'm playing a monk or something that doesn't start with gold).

1. Start a game of ADOM. Use any race/class combo you like.

2. Enter Terinyo. Drop an item (any item), then exit the screen.

3. Open Hackman (see bottom for more info), and locate and open the file 'adtl05_1'. This should be in the adom_dat/tmpdat subfolder of your ADOM folder.

4. Do a search (needs to be in hex mode) for "1404", minus the quotes. The
first location should be the right one.

5. If you dropped a gold piece, you should see "2500" directly after the
"1404". It may be on the next line down. Of course, if you dropped something
else, the value will be different.

6. Change the "2500" (or whatever) to "3E01". This changes the item to a wand
of wishing.

7. Click on where it says "3E", then hit the down key 7 times. This will take
the location forward 112 bits.

8. Type this (I have put spaces into it to make it more readable, don't type
the spaces): FF FF FF 7F This will give your new wand tons of charges.

9. Hit F5 to save the file and close Hackman.

10. Re-enter Terinyo in ADOM. The game will crash. However, it saves your
game before crashing :)

11. Re-open ADOM and load your now successfully hacked game :)

P.S. There is now a link to the Hackman website in the Links section of this group.
