Was it a shopkeeper? They do toss coins with skill. Tried it couple times myself, but they just disappear to a hole in ground or the monster snatches it from mid-air! A merchant character can throw coins, of cooz..

My freakiest death was while kicking in the air and straining my leg. An excellent HoF material...

I'd have to say that my freakiest death was when I was battling a least demon, and it could barely even scratch me. I decided it was a waste of my time, and moved on without killing it. But then i stepped on an altar without thinking, and a roaring column of fire came around me. THE FRIKKIN DEMON SACRAFICED ME. my poor L21 wizard...

Yeah, I hate when that happens. Kinda makes playing chaotic characters a bit more challenging (and frustrating!)... W/ a neutral or lawful char I always either kick chaotic altars or convert 'em, so they won't be a hazard..

I dont know if anyone has read the untimely death section, but my later-scummed winner had the ultimate death: choked to death on his own vomit. I was sick, then encountered a gelatenous cube. Do the math

My characters tend to be killed by anything BUT monsters. Here are some of the top deaths on my high score table:

1. Killed by Waldenbrook (Hey, it was his fault he got in the way of the demon...)
2. Killed in the arena by a killer bug
3. Turned into a quasit (Stat drain. I didn't even know they could do that. Didn't help I was doomed...)
4. Sacrificed by a barbarian
5. Starved to death (while paralyzed...)
6. Killed by a hydra (amazing, an actual monster)
7. Eaten by a grue (Doomed from a pool)
8. Drinking a potion of poison (trying to find a healing potion while poisoned, out of prayers, and down to the last few HP)
9. Killed by an ogre lord (Stupid of me. I could've taken him easily...)
10. Killed by a writhing mass of primal chaos (an ex-cat) in the arena

I've been crushed by tonnes of luggage more times that I care to remember (pack rat that I am), however I had a rather unlikely one once...

I was lugging tonnes of stuff around as per usual, when Strength of Atlas failed me, however in this case I was still only in the "Overburdened" range (just barely though). This was in the big room and some jackalwere summoned a bunch of jackals to pester me, so rather than casting Strength of Altas again I just started killing off the pesky jackals while overburdened, then I got hungry, but it's so anoying to eat while surounded, so I descided to kill of the jackals first. Then I got Starving! and because of the temporary strength decrease that's asosiated with starving my carrying capacity dropped a few notches and I got crushed by tonnes of luggage...

Sort of reminded me of the cartoons where you have someone carrying a ungodly amount of junk and then a butterfly or someting land on them and they (or the floor) totaly colapse (Si's can have that effect too btw) :P

LOL. poor jan...
what you probably should do instead of carry around a bunch of stuff is to drop them all in someplace safe (dwarftown 2x2 rooms is my fav) and come back whenever you need it.

Hey, does anyone have a list of recipes? I hate wasting skill increases on alchemy to learn them...

I liked when I slpped and fell and brke my back after doing the library in the wilderness with a cursed climbing set. Good times.

You can't mix potion without alchemy, and every potion you mix, without having the recepie, goes *boom*. But isn't getting one skill to 100 worth those potentially unlimited PoGA?

Potion of Gain Attributes. That potion that (blessed) gives +1 to all attributes (eg. St, Le, Wi and so on until Pe ;P ).
That's what the last alchemy recepie is for (always the last, gained at skil level 100).

A good place to leave items safely is the ogre tribe level (under the dwarftown). I have read somewhere that time slows very slowly there (maybe is static) and no monsters are generated when you are away.

My very annoying deaths: after reading the IBM manual. Permanently confused and praying didnt work... huh...
recently I was killed paralyzed by a mimic. It was very promising char and at 14th lvl, so advice for all at any level DO SHOOT THEM EVER

Yup. Wands or bolt spells across all the items in the HMV and Waldenbrook's are a good idea.

Iridia, better not to use firebolt or acid bolt in a shop. The shopkeepers don't like you destroying their stuff. :)

Actually, better not to use any other bolt than magic missile in shops. Every bolt spell destroys items quite effectively.

that's nethack. on the PoGA for me it was a potion of cure corruption and a curax munox herb, another time it was a potion of strength and cure corruption, a stomempia herb, potion of raw mana, potion of poison, potion of wonder. my deaths are always saccs and crushings, but these
posioned by a pool (always drink the pool water, that's my strategy)
sickened
water elemental
tried wishing for a gambling machine (how foolish i was in the early days)
snakes (vipers)
other
pissed my diety off
accidentaly attacked ancient dwarf
feeding children poision candy (i didn't know it would make the whole town hostile)
stepping on to a pit trap while blind
(about feeding isn't the message great about the beggars such as
you give the beggar the posioned cooked beggar corpse, the beggar devours it.)

2. Petrified by eating a Gorgon corpse
3. Broke neck by falling into a pit

If you've ever died it some times says that you unnaturally aged X years. It has probably happened to one of your characters if you have ever gone down to that undead level in CoC
