what're you all's favorites (i.e. fav artifact, fav race, class, wep. skill, location, etc...)??
IMO the best wepon is the staff. they might be hard to use, but at Grand Master that +40 DV looks awfully appealing... add to that some good armor, a couple rings of defence, mebe an amulet of defence, plus 99 dex, go coward... nuthin'd be able to hit you. =) might not be up to Filk's 500 DV mark, but it'd be pretty damn good nonetheless. good on defence, bad on offence... ah well, they're still fun.

Yeap, staffs are nice. There should be lowered cost to increase staff's weapon level for wizards.

99% of my chars are gray elven wizards, so I guess that's my favourite.

I don't rely have any particular favourite weapon. I tend to just go for the best weapon i can find, and usualy end up training lots of different weapon classes. Been a wizard I rarely have to rely on weapon skills to survive anyway.

Once I find a good artefact or ego item I tend to stick with it though...

i usually stick to the weaponskills that are quaranteed to be useful later on, like polearms (tridents), daggers (sting+needle, phase) or two-handed (minotaur axe), depending on the character.

For weapons, staffs are great.I decided they were awesome when I found a staff of smiting (+2 1d37+2 damage, not bad for a non-artifact).What helped me confirm this is when I found a quarterstaff of devastation(+0 5d10+6!) in the small cave as a high elven thief...what a weapon.
For characters,Orcish Beastfighters, purely because he was(and is) my only character where I managed to reach the Snake of Beyond...

Staves might give you +40DV at grand mastery, but a +15DV shield will give you +45DV at grand mastery, and it's far easier to achive grand mastery with a shield. Also you get the additional bonus of the DV from your weapon aswell (especially for the classes that start out with staves).

I'd say the best combination is a spear with a shield. Their easy to obtain early game, i always wait for orc scorchers to throw before killing them. Spear traps appear here and there. Also the rune-covered trident and the trident of the red rooster are so powerful that being trained in polearms is very useful.

Generally sting and needle don't need as much training because by the time you get them you usually do so much damage that anything is killed in one shot.

but shields that give +15 DV are pretty rare. best i've found was +11. and 'sides, there are staves taht boost DV even more. plus have you seen the stats on an eternium-shod quarterstaff??
IMO staves should be better. i came up with an idea for a long staff, it does 1d8 damage, is never shod, and gives +1 to +15 to your proficincy with a random spell (although it doesn't give you the spell, you have to find a book). you could also cast the spell through the staff, would be just like casting through a book except you have to be wielding the staff.

as for the original questions...

artifact: ring of immunity or bracers of war
race: dark-elf
profession: wizard
skill: alertness
location: peaceful glade (that's where I have my luggage piles) or the casino *grin*
weapon: ummm... I dunno... depends on the character... whips are nice, 'cause I like to play lawful ;)

ET-Shield with something nice is better than some stupid staff... remember that you can always use smithing and scrolls of defence to get a perfect shield =)

As for something nice... some artifact. Now what was that Emerald dagger again?

Halberds are nice... my char now has Wyrmlance + eternium halberd of penetration + eternium halberd of the sun. A pity I can't wield two halberds at once :(( That can be an idea for new corruption: you've grown two extra hands ;)

IMO when you get strong enough (like 80 STR) you should be able to wield the lighter 2-handed weps onehanded.

Yup, for example the mace from the ancient dwarf is a lot heavier (800s) and it's one-handed, so I can have a large crystal shield in the other hand (210s IIRC). And those halberds weight 50s each and are 2handed LOL

might have something to do with being big long sticks, but thats what spears are, they're jsut not quite as long. and a really macho guy would prob be able to use an eternium 2-HS in one hand with a shield in the other.

Sting and Needle roolaz, I allways train daggers, very often unarmed fighting (necro;)) shields are very good to low exp character. Staves, the best quicksilver quaterstave. Spears and phase daggers, sometimes two handed weapon if I found in early game eternium two handed weapon. Shields are nice, but if you have a realy grate speed, something faster than 150 + blessed seven league boots, than better are two weapons. Very often I train slings, bows, and crossbows
Smithing? Hmmmm I last make wonderfull armor, weapon and shield
red dragon scale mail (-1,-4) [+7,+20]
tower eternium shield (-1) [+20,+7]
braces of resitance [+9,+17]
eternium cap [+9,+17]
phase dagger (+12 1d4 +10) [+4,+0]
PD (+9 1d4 +12) [+4,+0]
I think it's very nice equipment. And who needs artefacts?:) Oki I used few hundreds ingots to upgread this stuff;) I digged Dwarven Halls 1 and 2, Arena level with ratling trades (I'm wating for cooked lizards;)) Ogre vilage under dwarven city, one level under dwarven city and three levels in infinity dungeon:))
Hmmmm I don't know but maybe female PC can buy more food than male PC from ratling traders.... My female PC necromanceres bought cooked lizards in hundreds, and my male thief, and all male PC my friend bought only little....
When you kill Dag, arena master and chat with ratling rebeliant litle green r') He thanks you from ending slaughter on arena and gives you scroll. I get scroll of peace (male troll thiev) Ofkorz you can do it after all fights in arena:)

Can you really upgrade a dragon scale armor with smithing?! I wonder what ingots you used...

btw, phase daggers aren't so great anymore, 'cause we have this great new weapon ability called "penetration" *grin*

My current char (lvl 45 D-E wizard) has been using a blessed eternium scimitar of penetration (+8, 2d8+8) since lvl 3 =) Now I slay molochs with three hits *grin*

Yes it posiblity, but it's need a lots of ingots. I had something about 500 normal mithril ingots and 100 blessed and make mithril cap [+13,+20]. Dragon armors need to upgread adamantium ingots. Lots of ingots, and food:)
