Okay, I'm a level 21 hurthling paladin. I've done TotHK, Darkforge and CoC down to the fire barrier. I saved Khelavaster and fed 5 artifacts to the demented ratling. Met a giant boar, but no skull. Killed 2 farmers in HiMV, no corpses. I've got a scroll of danger, wand of monster summoning and potion of cure corruption though. The problem is that I seem to be permanently invisible - I haven't done the arena yet, but I'll need 3-4 potions of visiblity to do it. Already used 2 and could beat only 8 of the opponents with them. And I will need more of those potions to lure farmers out of Terinyo.

So, I've also got one ring of djinni summoning, but can't decide what to use it for. Potions of visiblity would be nice, but they're useless after farmer corpse is obtained and the arena is done. I'd rather hunt for the boar than wish for the skull. I do not have a ring of ice and must do ToEF, but I don't have enough fire resistance to stay alive in tower anyway. I've got 11 SoCR's stashed so corruption should not be a problem for a while.

Any suggestions what to wish for? Rings of ice? Girdle of giant strength? Potions of visiblity? Farmer corpse (can it be wished for?), or even giant boar skull? I'm sure the wish would be handy before entering the ChAoS pOrTaL (if I ever get there that is!)

I say, save the wish and scum in the ID for a while.

I would strongly suggest wishing for red dragon scale mail - it will make the ToEF *much* easier while also providing a very high level of protection for the rest of your game.

Don't worry about the giant boar skull or the farmer corpse. When you are ready to get the skull, first get doomed and cursed - then wander the forest wilderness. You will encounter giant boars more frequently and one will eventually leave a skull. In my experience, it usually doesn't take that long.

Only go for the farmer corpse after the Old Crone has assigned you the quest to get it. Farmer corpses are virtually guaranteed after being assigned the quest. You also don't need a potion of visibility to lure a farmer out - you could use a companion and order it to kill a farmer, cast summon monsters, zap a wand of monster creation, etc., etc.

The arena is much trickier. Potions of visibility are pretty rare (in my experience anyway) and wishing for them may be the only way of getting enough to complete the arena. Personally, I would just ignore the arena for now. Sure, that means losing out on the golden gladius (and, depending on what you want to use it for, some additional useful combat skills) as well as the final dwarven quest. But you can make do without. The demented ratling can be satisfied with other artifacts (you don't need Big Punch).

Oh yeah - and *never* drain pools before you have finished the arena!!!

If you don't have 7lbs, wish for them. Sometimes there are none to be found through entire game. ToEF can be done without RoIce of dragon armor. If you have 7lbs, go for the potions.

I would still wish for red dragon scale mail. Yeah - blessed 7LBs are definately worth a wish. But they are useless in the ToEF and, IMO, the ToEF is probably the most dangerous location in the entire game given the relative experience of one's character at the time. Fire immunity + permanent invisibility will make the ToEF a *lot* easier. With the treasure hunter talent, 7LBs are a *lot* easier to find during the game (either on their own or via a wish - I will nearly pick up a pair by the time I reach the casino shoppe). The benefits of the potions of visibility are, IMO, very limited. Golden gladius and Big Punch vs *much* easier trip through the ToEF? No contest IMO!

Well, useless without a RoI anyway to protect them! Even then, I still would not risk a pair of 7LBs in the ToEF.

ToEF isn't that bad for an experienced player... I can't remember when I died there last time ;). Yes, without RoIce 7lbs are useless there, but they are very useful later.

And yes, usually you get _three_ pairs of SLB from a wish, so you can allow yourself to lose one in ToEF.

That's odd, I rate it as one of the most valuable items there is. It gives you running speed without increasing speed stat, so you get normal xp from kills, but can still outrun about anything. Not to mention the 90 day limit seems a lot longer once you get a grip on the boots. And you can always lose the to some stupid trap or something.

Yeah, the first pair is very valuable. Second is less but still good. All other usually go into store and never go out.

And you can be sure that the second you don't have an extra pair, RNG destroys those you are wearing. Always multiple spares.

Yeah. They last long if you have 5 pairs with you, but if you have only one... ;)

Thanks for the tips. I have two pairs of SLBs already so I don't think I need extra pairs. Perhaps I've always been lucky, but I've never lost blessed seven league boots. Traps and nasty doors always get amulets, potions and scrolls, but no the boots. I don't always find them though. My last char didn't find SLBs before he was down at CoC 35 or something, but being a wizard and having teleportation surely helps.

I have potion shop in PC1, which I scummed for the two potions of visiblity I already have gotten. I'm going to scum for more, but it doesn't restock often. I also have figurine of wonderous power shop in the SMC cave. I haven't dug up any graves - I did it once and got killed by a master lich and his summonings. I think the liches do see invisible, so it doesn't sound like a safe idea.

Red dragon scale mail sounds like a decent idea, but I'm going to hunt for fire lizards and fire beetles for a while. Might get lucky.

PS. Got the invisiblity after eating an invisible stalker. Thought the corpse would grant see invisible, but oh well!

Also, would it be a good idea to drain Darkforge pools for good resistances? There's one brown pool and I have brown eyes, so I might get lucky. Just afraid of losing teleport control and I don't have a stashed blink dog corpse either (I have about 100 castings of teleport on the character, so that's a good way to get out of a tight situation).

If I wish for red dragon scale mail, I'm sure the next monster I kill would drop it. It's such a common drop - or at least seems, but you never find it when you need it. ;) I also noticed wishes are very important if you're trying an ultimate ending, because speed is very helpful in the final combat.

I found a fire drake and it left a corpse so I left for ToEF. The wyrm could stand only 3 blessed arrows of slaying before he died. I was quite afraid when he managed to blast me 200 HP down in one turn though. Harder part was probably the tension room of molochs in the same level. I'm glad arrows of slaying work, but I lost many bows. Now in casino, at level 22. Promising.

Gozer, do you think digging graves is worth it?

Digging graves usually is worst your time and a best way to change aligment for me. Of course, it is danger a bit, then you face a lich king, but you can telepot self away (with wand or scroll if no memorized). And you can try to dig _usuall_ graves, not with treasure. I once get WoW with 5(!) charges from one. And artifact crossbow from second. And, of course, no lich kings sprung out.

There is a small chance that the grave may contain emperor lich, so watch out... never happened to me, fortunately.

Well, didn't use the wish at all. Instead I decided to kill my character in a red dragon vault. The fire damage was no problem, but I was too stupid to 1) wear amulet of life saving I had 2) drink healing potions when hit points go below 25% I cleared almost whole vault and then one critical hit brings me down to -7 hit points. A nice character, but killed by my own stupidity. Had the chaos pieces and was ready for a crowning, but the end.... :-/

Next time I'll drink those potions in time. I always end up with 10 spare anyway...

I think we all know the feeling of losing a good char to "I'll drink that potion next turn". Annoying as hell.

Yeah, and "I'll need it more later" - no you won't! In ADoM you should not take risk ;) and I can't remember if I ever had a problem with lack of !oUH/EH in mid/late game.

Sorry, originally posted this in wrong thread. :(

My current lvl 31 Dwarf Priest has found two WoWi with (0) and (3) charges. I intend to save one for Andy...any advice on what skills, if any, are worth wishing for? Food Preservation? Alchemy? Find Weakness? My plan is to do an ultimate Avatar of Balance ending, and I have no weapon or equipment requirements right now.

Thanks.

Alchemy, then Find Weakness. Alchemy first since u have little time training it. Find Weakness shall train itself quickly. That's what I think.

If the choice is between Food Preservation, Alchemy, or Find Weakness then absolutely Find Weakness first.

Alchemy should be last, since ingredients for PoGA are usually hard to come by anyway. Food Preservation and Find Weakness are easy to train and provide instant benefits upon receipt.
May thy wisdom be omnipresent.

I still prefer Alchemy. By the time u have to face Andy, most likely Find Weakness is 100, regardless of order. Alchemy, however, is another different story. If u win, the score for having Alchemy first might be higher (because of higher Alchemy). About Alchemy, I dont care much about PoGA since I always think PoEH is more important then PoGA because u usually need no more than 200 of the later in the whole game.

I'd suggest this: 1)Food preservation 2)Find weakness 3)Alchemy

Food preservation is really good, since you get a lot more corpses, and many corpses give stat boosts and resistances. Find weakness is also a good skill. Alchemy isn't that good, because you may get too hard recipes, so wishing for it is a bit gambling. PoEH aren't that rare, you'll find enough them. Alchemy is good for short-lived races. Recipes for PoL and PoY rarely are too complicated, so I'd wish for alchemy with short-lived PCs. And that possible good recipe for PoGA is very good.
The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt.
