So, I'm on the top level of the ToEF with no pickaxe and I pray but 'prayer remains unheard' and no pickaxe is granted. What's the problem here? I'm stuck because I can't bring pickaxes to the ToEF (no RoI's or fireproof blankies and I'm level 20! :@).

Help pls?

Get out of there and scum around for a while. Sooner or later, you WILL find a pickaxe/ring of ice/fireproof blanket.

No wands of digging?

Go to altar and get to 'very close' - that would give enough piety to get it, and will remove cursed/doomed if you are.

Nchum is sort of right - enough piety will solve your problem.
However, you will need a fireproof blanket in your travels I dare say. So you might as well find one before tackling the tower. So go scum. It takes quite a bit of real-time, but not that much game-time. And while looking for it, you will find a lot of other good equipment.

Remember to NOT put it in your tool slot and press 'u' key, rather press 'U' key and select it from inventory list (so it won't burn up while digging)

I have been scumming yesterday and a bit today on I 8-9 for a few hours totals but naw... I spent my last wish on red dragon scalemails for fire immunity, dropped all my flammable stuff on the barbarian's glade and went for the hot tower challenge. Rings of Ice NEVER seem to spawn in my adventures... Fireproof blankets seldomly do, fortunately enough... Well, off to puppy cave altar to regain piety(dwarftown is hostile 'cos of unholy aura).

Try to pickpocket through the Gremlin Cave.
Do Tomb of High Kings first.
Kill some bugs on the surface of Bugtemple for guaranteed XP if that gives you extra level.
Scum BigRoom :)

Know this: if you move fast, a blessed RoI will be enough to make it through the tower. I usually manage without too much inventory loss - although it DO happen. I don't know if the same goes with only a blanket, but it should work if your equipment is mainly non-meltable items...

Teleport (wand, coocked displacer beast corpse, scroll) + 3 Scrolls of Magic Mapping (Blessed!) - a very easy passage through 3 bottom levels.
Thundar's PoEHs are very handy.
*High* piety - easy way to restore HP and PP.

Anyway, all things listed above are very class-dependent.
Who are you then? e.g. race/class?

Use poison next time. Shoot it (with wand of poison or poisoned ammo) from the distance several times. Paralyze it first.
And bee invisible.
And cast Ice ball :)

I was thinking Lvl 20 was a little low. Just my opinion.

No. 20 is quite OK if you use certain tactics.
Additionally - there's a big difference between 20 lvl Wizard with Frost Bolt and possibly Ice Ball and for example merchant.

Yeah, my bad. I'd still tend to go higher, for safety's sake. The RNG eats little wizards.

Little Wizads start with herbalism.
That makes their To go to 30 after some chewing.
And little Wizard with To 30 is not just little. He's *fat* little wizard.

Mewto: nope, it's just that having the quotation take up most of the reply is kinda ridiculous. And I guess it is also against the usenet rules. Still, having a long text sig is not quite as bad as having a huge picture as the sig (remember that DBZ-picture someone used as a sig).

tongHoAnh,
being free-minded doesn't force you to be ignorant. Free mind is one wich posesses broad knowledge and can operate it freely, not one limiting oneself to certain narrow existential segment.

As for Echo's this is a description of the righteoust christians who endured all sufferings throughout their lives in this world never rejecting their God, and for that granted salvation in upcoming world as depicted in 'Revelation'.
This particular chapter, however, makes me curious: in Rev.7 Jehova's Witnesses, vile cultists, find their number of those who recieve salvation - 144.000 (from Israelis, BTW). However, in 9th verse John says about "great number from all people, which noone can count", and that's not the same as 144.000 of Israelis who had God's seals on their foreheads. In fact, I don't think that this 'great uncountable number' ever had those seals. Later, however, in 9:4 there is an order to locust not to harm *only* those who have God's seals. How about the rest of 'uncountable number'?

I might continue those ravings for some time, but it's da wrong place and da wrong time for it.

Echo, I hope you aren't one of the Jehova's Witnesses. :)

I'm not a Jehova's Witness.

You know, 12000 people are selected in each of Israelis 12 tribes so = 144.000 people altogether. Israel is the God's people and these 144.000 have served God very well so they are granted that seal. They will not suffer from the horrors of the last times. The great uncountable number will still get to heaven but they don't get a seal so they have to suffer 'till God finally wipes out the whole world.

This is how I see it.
