We all agree that Adom is the best roguelike there is, right? It's good, balanced, and good. However there is always something that could make it better.
Post your ideas in this thread!



Potion of explosion [2s]

If you throw this potion it acts like the spell 'Improved Fireball'. Damage depends on b/u/c status. Blast radius is always 1.
"The potion of explosion shatters!"
"Suddenly a huge fireball engulfs everything."
"The emperor lich skrieks one last time before being consumed by the roaring flames."


Wand of enslaving [2s]

When zapped at a non-unique creature, there is a change based on willpower and mana of the PC that the zapped creature will tamed. If fails, the creature will become hostile.
"ZZZTT! The farmer seems to be enslaved!"
or
"ZZZTT! The shopkeeper doesn't seem to be amused."


Potion of gas [2s]

When you throw this potion or 'u'se or try to 'd'rink it, it works like the darkness spell with 3 square radius. The 'gas' will fade away in 10 turns. Torches are not useful while in the gas.
"As you open the potion, dark gas engulfs the whole area!"
"The gas slowly fades away."

Higher level metals for every metallic item.

eg. eternium short swords, adamantium heavy maces, eternium great axes (i would really like to see that one)

more artifact missile weapons (artifact scurgari, javelines, throwing knives etc)

lol heres one i forgot ...
ne one play diablo 2...when you have a second slot for wepons and a sheild you can swith between with a key stroke..? adom needs that...say for a phase dagger and sheild in one hand or..2h axe in the other....

Helmets/boots of grounding, when you wear them, your teleporting powers are nullified

More talents, more skills and a couple more races like ratlings, resisant to disease :)

I like the idea of PoExplosions, ive always wanted them in Adom

Prefixs and suffixs for shields, Shield of Fog, better chance of absorbing missile damage, Shield of fire, better chance of absorbing fire damage, shields/armour of osmosis, which subtract damage taken by a point or two

And just more of everything :P

Spells!
Temporary stat/speed/DV/PV boost.
Magic Food spell - Maybe with manacost X, summoning something magical o eat, with a satiation value X.
Weapon enchantments! - temporary elemental damage from your weapon.
Infravision - that is, darkness persists, and player can only see warm-blooded or just hot objects. - undead, lizards, inactive golems are invisible.

How about a Boat? :D
An item weighting, for example, 3200, made of four logs, which renders a player carrying it timmune to effects of water squares?

Wands of cat repellent:D - Zapping on oneself makes cats flee from PC for a number of turns.

Piano - 1000s, increased effect of Music skill

Maybe, ability to give names to items you carry? Ilke in "D2 - Lord of Destruction" when there's a quest reward - naming one item in your favor.

Blah, blah, blah.

No. all of it won't happen in ADOM. Only in Jade.
And I personally took a decision to stop playing till Jade is ready. If it will never be done - oh well, 'never' menas *never*.

Random quest generator, ie: you talk to Jin, the dark elven sorcerer 'i need a spellbook of improved fireball, will you help me?'

quests would be along the lines of 'find me a *foo*' ,'escort me safetly to terinyo' or 'I need a cavebear pet, and would paay handsomely for one'

rewards could be gold, experience, items and suchlike

I would love a ring of alkaline, protecting stuff from acid. And a ring of grounding. Also improved fooball spell versions of other elements (improved iceball, improved lightning ball, improved acid ball)

If you've discovered any bugs in ADOM, post away. I remember at least one non-fixed bug. You know, when you go true berserk and walk into a peaceful creature, you will attack it. Well, if you happen to have the backstabbing skill, the game rather asks you 'do you want to backstab the -foo-?'.


Pre- and suffixes

Armor:
of regeneration - self-explanatory
of fast movement - reduces all energy costs a bit
hard - cannot be damaged in combat
of <attribute> - adds +2 to random attribute

Weapons:
paralyzing - small change (say, 1/20) of paralyzing opponent for 1d6 turns)
acidic - +2d6 acid damage
of fast attack - recudes attack energy cost
of recoil - on each hit the user takes 1d2 damage him/herself!


It'd be useful if torches would burn on the floor. Just put a torch in your missile slot, light it and throw it!

Regarding the "potion of explosion": there is already an item which works like that (not sure about radius). You can even use a sling of long shot.

Thor: what would these new dragons breath ? I'd guess a green one would breath poison and a bone dragon (undead ?) death rays. Are these dragons from AD&D ? At least some of them sound familiar.

Some artifact that temporaly increases all your stats and attribs - something like Quad Damage in Quake...

Green dragon: acid breath
Sapphire: only meele attacks
Golden: leaves TREASURE
Silver: always lawful
Diamond: undestructible (but slow)
Bone: casts necromantic spells
Azure: highly vulnerable to kicks :)

Wyrm is not wyvern, no.
Wyrm (worm) - used for many types of dragons, in this game real old ones.

Wyvern is a creature special to AD&D, it's a different species from dragon, stupid, has a poison stinger. It's more like a big evil bird than a cunning dragon.

And "bone dragons" are called "dracoliches" in AD&D. Don't remember what they breathe though.

Potion of literacy disappears after use :).

One thing that would be fun (for JADE mabye) is intelligent teams of monsters. Like vaults, but with creatures that complement each other.For example an orc party could be: 2-4 regular orcs, grunts. 2 orc scorchers, throwing spears and knives (more than one). An orc priest casting spells and confusing PC. A few hell hound pets near the chief who can breathe at PC. And group would wait in a room, retreat so that the PC has to fight them all.

Two spells:
- holy fire: similar to fireball but does double damage to non fire resistant evil, normal to fire resistant evil or non fire resistant neutrals and none to either lawfuls or fire resistant neutrals
- the opposite: hell fire

A very rare scroll (rarer than SoCR):
- scroll of surfacing: when read, teleports the character back at the entrance of a dungeon, and this from any level of the dungeon (except on very rare circumstances)

An artifact:
- the Amulet of the Holy Man: decreases corruption by 10%? (20%? more?)
The Great Wyrm of Order breathes light (more) - wow, you feel very smart!

Oh yeah another thing... I liked the RFE I posted about a new level (the Epic level). I wish this was implemented... but dreams rarely come true :)

tongHoAnh's suggestion made me think of a nice addition to adom. It would be nice if you could make holes filled with mud or water close to rivers, and if a pc/npc steps in that hole, it would get trapped and take some drowning damage, every turn

Adom doesn't lack so much. I'd rather see fewer rats carrying two-handed swords, and other problems fixed.
Though, I think "Potion of Pure Corruption" would be a good way to make PCs more alert of what they drink.
I'd also like to see more herb seeds and trowing knives.

LOL! Potion of Pure Corruption, I love it. Just a renamed Potion of Raw Chaos. Hehe. You should send that in to TB. ^_^

A few more bracers, Bracers of dexterity should be in adom, they seem to be part of the fantasy world, and bracers of skill> reduce attack time by 10% uncursed, 15% blessed and +10% cost if cursed

More variations of twohanded axe weapons, i think all adom has is GreatAxes and the Axe of the MinotaurEmpereror> and i very rarely find Great axes of devastation or fooness, (although once i did find a scalpel of devastation :))
