I was going for this with my new grey elf wizard in Dwarftown, but after saccing everything that i had ready, realized that i did not have enough, as i only got somewhere, who knows where, into "Spiritually invincible". Any advice where i can generate monies and such fast so that all of that piety doesn't go to waste?

EDIT: And after just typing this i realized that i am a moron anyways...i just generated another artifact by getting rolf's companion, my 2nd one, meaning i have to be lvl14...and im lvl13...gah, what a waste...oh well, i imagine ill get plenty of money eventually.

You have no other altars that you can do livesacs on? As for gaining money, I find a lot of nice items of value in the UD. The si is very good too. But much better is blessed stomafillia. As a wizard you should be able to harvest this in the Big Room (though it may require pacifying). 100 blessed stomafillia (sacced directly - not sold) from a base amount of piety should net you your first precrowning. Meanwhile other herbs harvested can be worth a decent amount of money, so a combination of gold and stoma could get you enough piety in total.

Question: I had my char all the way in Dwarftown, as I mentioned above, but had a power surge that crashed my computer after raiding darkforge and starting my sacrifices...my last back up was all the way back in Holeinthewall, before the Dusty dungeons, Darkforge, and CoC 1-9, and first 19 Arena battles was done...im assuming its not considered scumming to be doing all this again due to a freak incident? Otw, i may just make a new guy.

Restoring a back-up, because of a computer crash,
is not save scumming. In fact, it wouldn't be
a bad idea, to make more frequent back-ups.

Now if i could herb my toughness up a bit =p

meh, its all good now. I got Crowned for the first time! Got acid resistance (was hoping for fire, but meh), a 2nd blessed amulet of order, and a blessed Ring of Immunity (not bad, I guess).

Now i think im going to go do the graveyard before i do the pyramid, and after that finish the chain of quests from Thrundar. Definitely don't really want to go deeper than Dwarftown yet, cuz last time i did that i almost died..went down like 3 levels and almost got insta-killed by a troll king, 100 hp to 10 hp in one turn, despite having 70ish DV and 20ish PV at the time. yeouch.

EDIT: oh, how the power surge was epic! It totally crashed the tv next to me, thats how powerful it was! It was more power than a mere mortal could handle!

Question: Now that I'm a Crowned Champion of Order, how chaotic can i afford to be? Considering that i have the Wand starsign, for example. Since im going to go the dwarven graveyard, i wanna know how much i could get away with...not to mention how much pickpocketing i could get away with.

Do i keep going farther and farther into L+ (and farther and farther into safety?) if i continue wearing my blessed amulet of order?

You can go down to LN safely. Straying into NL territory though will result in instant falling from grace. L+ goes as high as 6000 stones (you can check this with a scroll of balance), which gives some buffer but not a huge amount. Wearing an amulet of balance when gravedigging helps reduce the alignment hit - I often dig up all the great treasure graves without getting much overall alignment change. Pickpocketing is not chaotic if performed on hostile creatures, so you just have to make sure they're attacking you first. Otherwise whipping yourself and healing pets can keep you in order at high levels (since the amulet stops working after a while).

FantomFang:
> Got acid resistance (was hoping for fire, but meh

Better than resistance, a crowning gives an
immunity. The RoI is a great crowning gift, it
grants all elemental immunities, along with some
DV and PV points.

> Definitely don't really want to go deeper than
> Dwarftown yet, cuz last time i did that i
> almost died

It is super easy to wander into the Dwarven Halls,
when scouting below dwarftown. I still do it. If
you notice a monster like a troll king or other
out of depth monster, check what level your on.
If it reads DH:2, don't try to fight, just run
for the stairs as fast as you can.

> EDIT: oh, how the power surge was epic!

A 'surge of power' is a message you get, when an
artifact (with guardian) is generated on a
dungeon level. So it's kind of funny: a surge of
power can make your day, but a power surge can
quite ruin it.

About the amulet of law, it's impact on you will
reduce, as your exp. level increases. As an exp.
level 15 PC, it should keep working well for you
for at least a few more levels. At your PC's
experience level, are you sure your ready for
grave digging? I don't do it myself, so I really
don't know, but Emperor Lichs can be generated
that way.

darren gray:
thanks for the tips there, ill remember it.

gut:
yea, i meant acid immunity =p and i know how good the ring of immunity is, the only annoying this is all the other resistances im bound to be getting from equipment. Also, it wasn't until the day before yesterday that i actually learned what the letters in the bottom right of the screen meant (the dungeon lvl). I would always see it say DrCh when i start a new game and then promptly ignore it. and my question about the graves? i just wanted to know if simply digging griff's grave was a bad idea when crowned =p

Well, further along now anyways, finished the Graveyard and the Pyramid with no problems whatsoever (having lots of bolt spells, base DV/PV of 60/29, and ondemand teleportation/invisibility rock). So now i think im going to go brave the animated forest and finish all of the thrundarr quests.

And i just went back down, and found out the Troll King was actually D:13. Interesting. Will continue from here.

EDIT: maybe ill post a snipped .flg of my character (by saving a backup and quitting)...im wondering if theres anything i should be working on

Restocking is random. Sometimes the little buggers just don't do it for ages. You can produce a log file of your character without quitting like that - '(' for a short log file, and ')' for a longer log file. It's actually important you don't quit to produce a log file - it can count as cheating. You'll find out information about your char like identification of all items and what resistances you have.

Better create a verbose logfile. That way you don't have access to information you'd only get if you died.

But I did not know you could make a logfile like that, thanks for the info.

> blessed hatchet of corruption (+0, 1d6+1) [50s]

Blah! Drop this, carrying it corrupts you!
You have a number of items in you inventory, that
would serve you better, in the form of gold.

Your shield skill is quite low for this point in
the game. It is a natural side effect of killing
everything quickly. It should be higher though.
Consider weilding two shields for a while, and
kill monsters with missiles. This will help out
for later when you will really need those shield
and missile benefits.

Well, you are at a point in the game where I
normally kill Khelevaster, and get on with the
game. You might want to try to get an amulet of
life saving though, Khelly does give nice rewards.

If you don't mind missing a spellbook of teleport,
and 6 blessed scrolls of chaos resistance, your
PC is probably tough enough to continue without
them. Your next stop will be to get the water orb.

It's easy enough, as none of the water temple
minions can see in the dark. Just create some
darkness in a corridor, and lead your victoms to
it. All inhabitants are highly vulnerable to fire
bolt. The Orb guardian may panic on you and run,
but your firebolts should stop him from getting
far. If not, you'll have to chase him.

After that, you will want the RotHK. You already
have the frost bolt spell to make your bridge
with, so it should be easy. You might consider
doing the ToEF before darkforge. Your immunities,
plus frost bolt, will make it a cake walk up to
the ACW. There are tricks for beating him though.

Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong!

Gut, check stuff before you post. Weapons of Corruption corrupt monsters on hit, not you.

A pessimist sees a dark tunnel.
An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
A realist sees a train.
And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks.

Actually I was proof reading this as you posted.
3 minuiuts apart. I can't say that I would have
caught the mistake, but thanks anyway.

Indeed weapons 'of corruption' do not corrupt the
wielder. The above comment has been scratched
out. I didn't delete it, as the following posts
wouldn't have made sense.

hehe, yea, i made sure and checked the guidebook or else i woulda dropped it.

ok, will do on the shield thing, i was actually trying to do that a bit the other day. I do need to raise my missile weapon marks too. I think i do want to try and save khelly, so i may go back and check out some of the pools i've generated (got one on UD:4, UD:5, and CoC:6)

ofc, first i got to go redo a couple quests again, because im a moron. Apparently, when you use ADOM Sage, you can hit the X button in the top right corner to close it, unlike the DOS version i was using before, but it clears away your character and forces you to go delete the .prc file. SO i have to redo Thrundarr's quests (animated forest, ogre tribe, where i was getting shield marks =(, and arena quest). Shouldn't take very long though.

Oh, and about some items serving me better as gold, I know what you mean, I just don't see the need to sell some things until i actually have a real need for gold. Maybe when i start stat training or something. What specifically were you thinking i dont need? Some of extraneous wands/potions/scrolls? I already know about the sis, i just lose track of em sometimes.

EDIT: random i know, but how do you get beeswax from a beehive?

You're looking fine. I don't know why you're wasting your Strength of Atlas spells, though. You're strong enough to carry your equipment by yourself easily, and you can still get strength points by being strained!

You're well set up for anything you can do before killing Khelly except maybe the ToEF or the Rift, so no need to rush. To Tomb of High Kings and Darkforge first. A shot at six SoCR is too valuable to just throw away IMHO.

You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Make sure that you have your piety at 'very
close', before drinking. That means that
you will have the 'fate smiles' intrinsic.
Also, if you get doomed while drinking, you
can just sac 1 gp, to remove the dooming.
You won't get a wish if your doomed.

I was unaware of being able to close any
version of ADOM with the X button. I thought
you had to quit from within the app. Maybe
I misunderstand.

> What specifically were you thinking i dont need?

The way I play, I usually wind up spending all
of my gold on piety. There are many other uses
for it though. Some items to consider selling:

> uncursed black dragon-hide gauntlets (-2, +0) [+0, +2] [10s]
> uncursed white dragon-hide gauntlets (-2, +0) [+0, +2] [10s]
Made obsolete by elemental gauntlets

> uncursed amulet of protection +2 [3s]
Made obsolete by the Ankh

> uncursed wand of ball lightning (2 charges) [4s]
Very rarely will you have an opportunity to
use this.

>uncursed scroll of amnesia [2s]
Useless

> blessed scroll of gold detection [2s]
X2 This is also very rarely useful.
I just sell mine as soon as I get them.

You should get a few 1000 gp from these.
It probably won't make a big difference
though. Some players like to have some
useless items in there inventory. It
lessens the chance of your good items
being destroyed, should you hit a trap.
I usually go for the gold though, in the
early game.

> random i know, but how do you get beeswax from
> a beehive?

Just kill all of the bees. The wax will be left
on the square that the hive was. If you kick the
hive, it makes it more likely that royal jelly
will be produced.

Those things run out of bees occasionally? Didn't know that, thought they spawned infinitely. I already sold the gauntlets, but ill prolly sell that other stuff too. And im good on the "very close" thing, just had to sac 10k gold to get back up from spiritually invincible. Considering i didn't get a wish and the next closest pool i have are darkforge and UD: 4/5, its gonna be fun if i have to run back to dwarftown, as it has the only lawful altar ive found so far, and i dont wanna try to learn how to convert an altar on a char thats doing so well =p.

But yea, you can get out by hitting the x, as i learned. It sucks.

Well, drinking pools, got a wish and the Amulet of Life Saving as a result...just now gained a second wish, and have all these intrinsics (potion of insight ftw)

See Invisible, Stun/Petrification/Fire/Poison/Para Resist. Had cold, but pool stole it. Gotta regain the lucky/fate smiles stuffs.

Very nice. You're doing rather well for a character at this stage in the game. Strength could easily be raised by eating any ogre or giant corpses you come across. Shield skills can be trained by wearing two shields on Very Aggressive in the middle of a spider factory. Missiles can be trained well against swamp hydras.

Some more offensive spells would be very useful for you, particularly burning hands and some ball spells. You might want to consider stair-hopping in the ID to get these.

What's your PoGA recipe?

Potion of Strength + Potion of Boost Speed. Ugh.
But sad me accidently sacrificed my Rehetep Mummy Wrappings...good thing i have the see invisible intrinsic now =p

i also have intrinsic invisibility, but i can deal with it. I have two ball spells now, got Acid Bolt back (had had it at E:+13, and Lightning Ball). Also got a second wish, couldn't decide what to get, so i got a girdle of giant strength =p just cuz i was sporting a seriously bad girdle (woo girdle of carrying!)

EDIT: id like to start trying to smith, but i can't seem to find an anvil anywheres...is there a guaranteed one somewhere?

Two. One upon killing Kherab, one for killing
Garth. Kherab is by far the tougher fight. He
can critical hit for hundreds of points, and
he regenerates quickly. You can sometimes use
the water squares in the pool room as shields.

Garth would be a breeze for you. He can repair
pickaxes though, so you might want to keep him
alive until you get your mining done. If you
kill him, first lead him to the level below
dwarftown. That will keep the town friendly.

Lightning Ball will be infinitely handy in DarkForge... Might get yourself a nice weapon there. Be sure to pick up and ID everything - there's sometimes hidden gems.
