I beat the game twice...both were with grey elf wizards...;) one incidentally had 2000 speed which made it a LOT easier...hehehe

Finished once, with a human archer. Quite easy, slaying ammo was plentiful, and I got lucky with many things (Like getting 3 wishes before Khelly.)

I've won it five times, including Avatars of Balance and Order. All were with (semi-)magely types - my first victory was a Drakish Wizard, for the useful skills Drakelings get combined with the Wizard's superb magical ability.

I've been playing for nine months, but I had a lot of experience with Nethack, so I knew some basic principles of survival. (Simple stuff like "fight in corridors", "watch your hit points", "running away is better than dying" that applies to all roguelikes.)

I've never made a video of the game (is that even possible under Linux?)

I've been playing for 3 months now and the highest I've gotten is level 17 high elf beastfighter and level 13 troll beastfighter. I can't seem to get very far with the non-fighter types, I always end up having a rock fall on me and killing me, or some such thing. I've never even managed to get the first orb (I've never passed the insane graveyard in the CoC; how in heck do you survive that without having your strength and toughness being wittled down to nothing?).

Highest ever gotten is level 21 human priest. (often got bored after the route of puppy quest => carpenter => dwarven quests => Pyramid => Fire => Water Orbs and then suicided myself) Reason for boredom is that i'm too coward to face dangerous monsters and so often put blessed ankh + 1 or 2 rings of luck + permanently blessed by deity + Fate smile on my characters......(when you're level 20, those rats & kobolds can be killed with one finger) The question is: Can one be a hero without taking risk? (There must be some problems with my playing style.....) By the way, i've been playing ADOM for 1.5 years already...stupid enough...

I'm playing for about 2 years and I captured water and fire orb couple of times. Usually somewhere around D:30 I have suicidal ideas... and here we go again :))

I've found it hardest around levels 15-20, when the difficulty gets harder if you want to get anywhere, but your character is still fairly weak... Dwarven Halls, the Fire orb, the CoC graveyard, and the Water temple usually claim most of the characters that get past level 5. Highest I've made it was a level 23 dwarven mindcrafter that had the water and fire orbs, then got splattered by the Casino shopkeeper after the Unholy Aura kicked in.

at any point in the game, the best way to survive is to move slowly. in the CoC graveyard, it's even more important. you have to stay in the corridor, move slow, and hit hard and fast. And, of course, don't get hit.

I've played for about 3 years now... and have one about 10 times... mostly on version 1.

I find that if i get a charactor to the pyramid - it'll more then likely win the game (which is why these days i only level-hop the ID until about level 13-14 and then try for precrowning).

However i do frequently find myself as a corpse if i spend too long trying to find AoLS or wishes.

Once i have the water orb it's smooth sailing -

Spoiler
Full heal whenever you want it - and there's enough corruption removal items in the game to remove any corruptions - he who saves khelly gets more.

Question. Is it possible to record a whole win? I've seen some movies before - they weren't incredibly long (from the guidebook - about 10-20 mins) but still rather large. It would be nice to see where you could of handled things better in old games, and possibly share said games around with folks.

i'd probably want to watch one such... should be broken up however, so you can fast-foreward, etc. and come back to where you were if you want to go do something else...

Do you get anything from eating it?

In one-year i win, whitout scumming or cheating, only tre time, one whit a drakish barbarian, one whit a troll healer (no clandle day =) ), and a drakish wizard.
I've notice, that carcter whit more tougness and strengh, are more easy for winning, but score, was low.. =)

I've played on and off for about 5 years now and never won yet... I've been close a couple of times, but bad stuff always seem to happen...

Way back (think it was G10 or 12) I had a trollish barbarian on D:48 with all the orbs when the game crashed without an emergency save, and the second best character I had was a level 50 human priest wich was lost to a power failure shortly after cleaning out the library...
These days I only have time for 1 or 2 characters a week if any, I've had a few promesing ones, but I always manage to get them killed fairly early, so I guess I have a broad definition of "promesing" :p

I've won 5 times now. Hurthling monk, drakeling elemtalist, dwarven priest, hurtling priest and GE wizard. All regular wins. I'm trying hurthling thiefs now. They're quite an interesting combo and I usually manage to get fairly long with them too. 4 out of 5 pc's reach dwarftown. Quite acceptable IMO. :) I've been playing for about 3-4 years now. It all started with g12 on my old trusty Amiga 1200. Ah! Feel the nostaliga! :)

I had gotten to the gate with my level 48 troll wizard, but being more adventurous than many I decided to go into the gate after I killed everyone using an incredibly high wisdom score and multiple ball spells. Needless to say I got ripped to shreds or something of the sort, that instant death ending. Oh well it was fun anyways.

I've layed ADOM about 1.5 years, won the game twice, both times with dark elven ranger. At the first time I did the regular, in the other, I became Avatar of Order. I was anxious to challenge the greatest opponent in the world of Ancardia... but I was really disappointed with Andy, he managed to kick my butt for 9 hp! From 1105 to 1096!

I've won 3 or 4 times, and I've been playing about 2-3 years now. Somehow I usually manage to survive trhu everything if I just get to lvl 25+... Well, that's the hardest thing in the whole game, my chars mostly die at lvl 15 or something. :)

I've just lost my best char - lvl32 female hurthling archer. I was down to D:48, but I came up (I couldn't got the third orb) and "was killed by a greater moloch in the arena" :(. I'll send her to HoF tomorrow.

My char is on the site. Her name is Elanor - quite high in the untimely deaths :) you can have a look and laugh :). Yesterday I saved Khelly for the first time and I'm very proud of myself. Too bad that char died. An acid vortex IIRC. But I'll win someday! Next year maybe.

I've completed ADOM once by closing the gate (dwarven priest), and twice with UCG (dwarven monk, dark elven bard (!))... all 1.0.0 victories (and I never visited the bug place with these chars!)... I liked the DE bard... had ALL the great skills (after lvl 25), got 10 wishes... :)
I had one neutral dwarven barbarian with St & To over 80 both, who died by going into the chaos gate without being enough corruptions (I was too lazy to check)... that same character got 19 rings of djinni summoning (I love potions of exchange)...
